My Warrior playing friend is off to another tournament with them and wanted a game. I thought I would use my Beasts, I know they are terrible but figured I have them so why not. Plus my record so far this edition is pretty good so I could do with a loss
In this tournament he is going, Wizards do not add their magic level to cast, so we played with that this game.
Here is the list I took:
Doombull; Heavy Armour, Gnarled Hide, Dragonhelm, Axes of Khorgor, Healing Potion.
Lvl4;
BSB; Shield, 4+ Ward, Heavy Armour.
Gorebull; Shield, Heavy Armour, Ramhorn Helm.
36 Gors; 2 Hand Weps, FC
39 Ungors; Spears, FC
36 Bestigors; FC
3 Chariots;
6 Minos; Additional Hand Weps.
His list was as follows:
Lord - Halberd, Regen, Dragonhelm.
Lvl1 - Nurgle, Scroll
Lvl1 - Death, Chanelling Staff
BSB - Tzeentch, 4+ Ward
17 Warriors - FC, Khorne, 2 Hand Weps
17 Warriors - FC, Khorne, Halberds, Shields
17 Warriors - FC, Khorne, Halberds, Shields
Chariot - Khorne
Chariot - Khorne
Chariot - Khorne
Spawn - Khorne
5 Dogs -
5 Dogs -
Hellcannon -
Deployment/Terrain
At my place so my usual table, big impassable arch in centre, long hill right flank, pool left flank. Hill on my left corner facing one in his right corner.
I had my Minos out on my left flank with a Charior, I had my Bestis on my right with a Chariot and my Ungors and Gors central with my last Chariot.
He has Chariot and Halberd unit with BSB on my left. Lord with Halberd unit and 2 Chariots central with his Additional Hand Weps and Death Wizard on my right. His Nurgle Wizard went with his Lord.
Chariot Test
It was a very tentative first few turns with him using his dogs to stop me gunning straight at him with my units and he was very reluctant to engage, instead trying to take out my characters with the first death spell and buboes combo which did manage to kill my Gorebull and wound my Doombull twice but he then used his Healing Potion and went back up to full wounds.
My Chariot charged his Spawn who was holding me up on my left flank, but it managed to lose and be destroyed by the thing. My central Chariots charged his central dogs, clearing them away and ending up behind his line.
His stalling hadn't achieved much as his Cannon raarghed turn 1 and only killed 1 Mino turn 2.
With a clear path now between my Doombull with Gors and his Lords unit and his 2 Chariots he went for the charge. Only his Chariots made it in though, he killed some Gors but my Bull smashed one whilst the other fled.
Rampaging Bull
This left his Lords unit open to my Doombull and Gors, who then also had Mind Razor cast on them. I smashed his unit whilst his Lord killed my Champion. I wiped them out and the Lord ran, escaping me as my Bull had to feed.
Next turn my Doombull and Gors charged the Hellcannon and also smashed that. His Lord by this point had rallied and charged back at me hoping to kill the Bull but I only lost 2 wounds as I stepped up to his challenge and I cut him down in return.
Bestigors + Minos
Out on my left flank his Chariot charged my Minos on its own, it killed one and took 6 wounds back, passed all but one of its saves and so broke my unit and ran them down!. Meanwhile the Spawn had charged my Ungors trying to kill the BrayShaman but my Shaman cut it down himself.
Out on the right his Additional Hand Wep Warriors charged my Bestigors, they killed a few but my T4 really helped and I smashed his unit to pieces in return.
End of the Doombull
My Doombull and Gors got a charge on his Warriors out on my left flank as my Chariot had held them in place with a flank charge earlier but had died for its troubles.
The combat lasted afew rounds and he got me down to about 10 Gors, my BSB and Doombull. In the last round of it I had wiped out his entire unit with my Bull whilst our BSBs duelled, mine dying after causing a wound to his. Now as I had wiped his unit out, I couldnt get any extra kills from my Gors or my Doombulls Stomp, which was very annoying as that meant I lost the combat and as I wasn't able to hurt the BSB as he was locked in a challenge, he still had something to run me down with and so his lone BSB ran down my unit.
Still, this only left him with his BSB and 1 Chariot against 1 Chariot of mine, my Ungors with Great Shaman and my Bestigor unit.
Result: Victory to the Beastmen!
Post Game Thoughts:
Well that went pretty well, my Doombull just running amok besides that last combat. All my matchups paid off besides the Minos who didnt even get to fight the Warriors down that flank.
I was very surpised that I beat his units but characters and magic were enough to sway the combats my way.
