Finally got round to playing a game under the new rules and thought I'd crack out the old Dwarfs.
My Dwarfs did ok under the last edition using a Lord with Hammerers, Warriors with BSB, Runesmith, a Slayer. 2 Units of Thunderers, 4 Bolt Throwers, an Organ Gun some Miners and a Gyro. Their 10 Games finishing with 6 wins, 3 draws and a close loss to Tomb Kings. My Lord wracking up some impressive kills including Keeper of Secrets, Sorcerer Lords and Vampires. I think Dwarfs are better under these new rules as opposed to the low tier army they were last edition who usually at best managed narrow wins.
So here is the list I used for my first game, it is still open to changes though;
Lord; Shield Bearers, Great Wep, Rune of Stone.
Runelord; Anvil.
BSB; Master Rune of Gromril.
23 Warriors; Shields, FC. [5x5, joined by Lord]
23 Warriors; Great Weps, FC. [4x6, joined by BSB]
10 Thunderers; Shields. [2x5]
Cannon; Engineer with Pistols.
Cannon; Engineer with Pistols.
Grudge Thrower; Rune of +1S.
Flame Cannon;
Organ Gun;
Gyrocopter;
My Opponent for my first game was a regular Chaos rival, he had just come 4th [having to play Lizards in 4 of his 6 games though, so he was glad when i decided I didnt want to try my old Lizards out haha] in a fairly competative 50 man tourney but this was his first go under the new edition too. His list was as follows;
Sorc Lord; Lvl4, Disk, Golden Eye, Armour of only ever take 1 wound [?], Spell Fam, Tzeentch.
Sorc; Lvl1, Puppet.
BSB; Tzeentch, 4+ Ward from Rulebook, Hand Weapon and Shield.
He didnt realise that the parry ward didnt stack so had assumed that this guy got a 2+ ward in combat, still a 3+ aint bad.
17 Chosen; Tzeentch, Shields, FC, Rapturous, Favour. [Joined by BSB]
25 Marauders; Tzeentch, Hand Wep + Shield, LA, FC.
25 Marauders; Tzeentch, Hand Wep + Shield, LA, FC.
5 Horse; Slaanesh, Throwing Axes.
5 Horse; Slaanes, Throwing Axes.
Hellcannon;
Warshrine; Tzeentch.
Pre Game Thoughts; I was only really concerned about that Sorc Lord, Hellcannon and those Chosen, I would focus on those before firing on the rest of his army. I trust my blocks to chop down those Marauder units, annoyingly his Lvl1 got Pit of Shades from the Lore of Shadow.
He deployed his Chosen facing my Lord and Warriors with his Shrine behind and Cannon supporting their flank. His Marauders heading at my BSB with Great Wep Warriors and his Horse and Disk on my right facing mostof my War Machines.
Early Game; I go first and move my Gyro up, I use wrath and ruin on some horse, and roll a 1, then I roll another 1 and my Anvil explodes, first time ive ever used one and it dies first turn haha.
My Cannons open up on his Hellcannon and kill it. My Grudgethrower kills a Chosen who have +1S.
He advances and his Sorc casts Flickering Fire on a Cannon and does 1 wound, he Gateways my Thrower and does 2 wounds.
I continue to rain fire down on those Chosen but he is passing 1 in every 2 6+wards and he has +1 armour thanks to his Shrine in his first turn [This is the first time I have ever played this guy where he has not got the 4+ Ward result for his Chosen by the second turn!]. My Gyro shoots down 1 Horseman from one unit and 3 from another.
Horsemen surround my Gyro and throw axes at it, doing 1 wound but I pass my save. His lines continue their advance whilst his Sorc flys out to cast gateway on my Great Wep unit, he gets 7 S9 hits, thankfully not instant killiny my entire unit but 6 Warriors die.
Firestorm!; My Organ sights his Sorc Lord, overconfident in his 3+ Ward, I roll 10 for my number of hits, wound 7 times and he fails 3 saves, killing him!. I keep pouring fire into those Chosen although my Grudgethrower does kill 8 Marauders. My Gyro moves around and guns down more Horse leaving just 2 in each unit.
With his Sorcerer Lord dead his Shadow sorcerer sees his chance for glory, summoning the winds of chaos he unleashes Pit of Shades in its biggest incarnation onto my Lords unit, I fail to dispel and he kills 16 Warriors! as my Warriors are sucked into the ether his lines continue their march towards my lines whilst his throwing axes wound my Gyro.
My Gyro moves around his undamaged Marauder block, killing 5 of them as I reduce his Chosen to only the Standard Bearer.
Seeing his army fading my opponent desperatly throws his BSB into combat with my Lord, knowing I couldnt afford any expensive gear on him because I also took an Anvil. As I have no ranks, and he charged and is a BSB he actually starts the combat on +2 Combat Res compared to my 1 for my standard. The BSB hits all his attacks and wounds 2, 1 of which I fail. I now need to kill the BSB or lose the combat, my Lord hits 4 times, wounds 4 times and 2 of his 3+ Wards are failed. Chopping the BSB down.
With his Shrine, 2 units of 2 horse and 2 depleted units of Marauders left he calls it a game his army losing their courage after seeing their battle standard fall in single combat with the Dwarf Lord.
Result - Win
Massacre for the Dwarfs.
Post Game Thoughts; I thought he conceeded a lil early to be honest, his Marauders were ready to charge some of my guns and it would have been hard for my infantry to respond to them, he could have wracked up quite a lot of points killing my War Machines on my right flank. Still a pretty good showing from the Dwarfs in what was a pretty boring game. I feel as though my list is a bit boring despite the anvils fireworks in the first turn, I have the same amount of warmachines as i always had and only 1 less infantry block and those were only thunderers anyway but i am missing some of my movement from the miners, I may drop something to squeeze them back into the list.
