Game 9 - Vs High Elves - 2000 Points
My list remains the same.
My opponents is as follows;
Alith Anar;
Noble; EAGLE, Enchanted Shield, Lance, Dragon Armour.
Mage; 2 Scrolls.
Mage; 1 Scroll, Amulet of Light.
10 Archers;
10 Archers;
10 Shadow Warriors;
10 Shadow Warriors;
4 Bolt Throwers;
5 Reavers;
5 Reavers;
2 Tiranoc Chariots;
Pre Game Thoughts; I was very worried by his 5 Bolt Thrower shots, my Herd screen should nullify a lot of it though. His force would also be very hard to tie down in combat, but If I could I should be able to clean his force out pretty easily. I got Spasms, 2 Frenzy spells and 2 Delusions which should really help me to get into combat.
Early Game; I go first and advance en masse behind my screen, the Hounds going to my flanks. 2 Spawn on my right, 1 and the Chariot on my left. I get the Frenzy spell off on some Archers.
He fails to cast Drain magic whilst his Reavers move out to the extreme flanks. Shooting kills all my Hounds and wounds a Spawn badly. It also kills all my Ungors from my Herd and I fail a LD9 panic and flee.
Herd rallies. My Spawns continue on and my Bestis and Minos continue without their Herd screen. I miscast on my very first spell and end the magic phase...
His shooting drops a rank of my Bestis, 2 wounds off the Chariot and some wounds on the Minos [Without the Doombull]. His Reavers flee from a Spawn.
My Doombull charges out of his unit as the Reavers are trying to redirect me but the Doombull has a line of charge to the righthand Shadow Warriors. I Spasm his lefthand Shadow Warriors are Spasmed. Doombull beats Warriors and chases them off the board.
A Spawn on my right is killed and I lose the whole none Doombull Mino unit. His Reavers rally and move to intercept my Chariot to stop them charging his Shadow Warriors. His Chariots both charge my Minos but the combat is drawn. His shooting also decimated my Bestis leaving just the front rank, Alith Anar then shot down the flank and killed the rest of the unit inlcluding a Shaman, leavingjust my Standard and a Shaman.
Doombull returns. Chariot charges the Reavers who chose to flee but dont get far enoug hand are caught. Those Archers are now down to 1 Elf thanks to my Frenzy spell. I also cast my Frenzy spell on Alith Anar. My Shaman and Besti Standard charge the other unit of Archers. My Minos smash a chariot and run the other down. My Standard and Shaman draw combat with the Archers, the Shaman losing a wound.
Wrath of the Shadow King; Alith Anar takes no damage from my Frenzy spell [he doesnt take any ALL game despite it doing a total of about 4d6 S3 hits! which should have been enough to kill him]. The Frenzied Archer also has to charge my Spawn. My Chariot is shot down along with some of my Herd. Alith Anar does an annoying 3 wounds to my Minos, I get 3 S6 back and do nothing...I then fail my LD8 break test and fail to rally for the rest of the game... The lone Archer is killed. His Reavers did move around to stop my Herd and Spawn going after his Mages once the Archer was dead. My Standard and Shaman kill those Archers but a turn too late now that the Mages behind them had moved on. Luckily for me though, 3 Bolt Throwers panicked off!. Neither mage did though.
Doombull head towards Alith Anar, but I am down to 2 wounds thanks to that Eagle Nobles shooting. My Herd and Spawn charge his Reavers. Killing them and the Spawn over runs into the last Bolt Thrower.
Final Clash;In the last stages I am in a very strong position. Alith Anar must charge my Doombull, he should only manage 1 wound and I should do 2 and autobreak him anyway if I only do 1. My Besti Standard and Shaman are safe and my Herd have a charge on Eagle Noble whilst my Spawn is also safe.
So all of this happens, My Herd charge the Noble, kill his Eagle but he then outruns me. In his last turn, Alith Charges my Doombull. His Noble rallies and along with the last Shadow Warriors just do enough wounds to panic my Herd with Shaman, I fail it....giving away 300+ Points. No worries I should still get the points for Alith to salvage a draw. He does his 1 wound, I do 1 back. No worries because he autobreaks, getting me my Mino Standard back, giving me his Victory Points and the extra 100 for killing the general, but my opponent rolls anyway in case of insane courage....double 1!.
Result - Loss
Minor Victory to the High Elves.
Post Game Thoughts; So ive gone from a win to a loss thanks to a failed panic and an insane courage roll on the last turn. Thats pretty frustrating, the panic fair enough but not the insane courage too lol. I think the early failed panic on my Herd and the early miscasts really cost me though. Alith Anar was also a total pain, he shot down a Spawn, then shot down the flank of my Bestis killing a Shaman and 2 others, he then beat 2 Minos with a Standard on his own somehow and then held my Doombull when needing an Insane Courage roll, d**n that guy! He is lucky he has cool fluff .
So my Beasts fail me again, but again I think they had the potential to win and I do really enjoy using them. I just really dont get how they keep losing. Not looking forward to the new book though as what I like most about my list is my Slaanesh theme [which I will be losing], the Slaanesh lore [gone] my skirmish screen to shield my hammers [gone].
