This first game is an old one I played out whilst I was running my Orcs and Gobs, hence the fluff. The list I used was also all the Empire models I actually owned at the time, hence the expensive lord choice and the masses of War Machines.
Game 1 - Vs High Elves - 2000 Points
Empire List -
Thyrus Gorman [Rules on the GW Website]; [With Halberds] Barded Steed. Wizard; [With Halberds] Lvl2, Speculum, Sword of Might. [Beast Magic] Warrior Priest; [With Spears] H.Armour, Great Weapon. Captain; Full Plate, Lance, Casket of Sorcery, Pegasus.
19 Spears; Shields, FC. - Detatchment; 8 Halberds - Detatchment; 6 Handgunners [Estalians]
19 Halberds; Shields, FC. - Detatchment; 8 Free Company
10 Handgunners; 4 Cannons; 2 Hellblasters;
2000 Points
Elf List -
Archmage; Crystal, Ring, Lvl4 Mage; Lvl2, Jewell of Dusk. Noble; Great Wep, Talisman of Loec. 10 Bows; 19 Spears; FC 14 Lions; FC 14 Lions; FC, Banner of Sorcery Lion Chariot; Lion Chariot; Bolt Thrower; Bolt Thrower; Eagle; Eagle;
Snotgob looked on from the steep sided cliffs lining the edges of the battlefield. In the deep vally, two armies stood ready for battle. He stiffled a giggle. The Elves had launched an expedition to avenge their fallen brothers and slay him. The Emporer Karl Franz had allowed them passage through his lands and as a sign of friendship sent his own host to aid them, an artillery train led by one of his greatest battle wizards and former supreme patriarch Thyrus Gorman. A mage the best choice to strengthen the bonds with the magically attuned Elves.
Snotgob could not hope to stand against the combined army and his force had fallen back, although he had not risen to his position of power without cunning. Sending out his sneakiest gits, he had set them the task of stealing one of the powerful magic rings belonging to the Elven Mages and to plant it in the tent of Gorman. The Elves would detect it, their mages easily powerful enough to locate it. Locate it they had and a war of words had ensued between Gorman and the Elven Mages, the haughty Elves had accused the Humans of greed and deception, despite Gormans protests to the contrary and the accounts of the Empire sentries of spotting Goblins fleeing the camp. The Elves would have none of it, believing the Humans would do anything to steal a measure of their power.
Gorman, a fiery, forceful man was incensed with rage. Screaming of their arrogance and blindness had only made matters worse. Tensions rose within the camps and their fate was sealed when an Elven sentry shot down an Empire sentry who he had deemed too close to their encampent. Now they stood arrayed against one another, ready for battle.
Snotgob got comfy.
Deployment -
On my left flank was a Cannon deep in my depo zone, further forward stood my Spears with Detatchments and a Hellblaster. Facing off against the Chariots and Archers and 1 Eagle.
Centrally I had 2 more Cannons flanking my other Hellblaster, facing the White Lions.
On my right stood my Halberds with Wizards, a Cannon deep in my corner and my Handguns out front. Facing the enemy Bolt Throwers and Spearmen, plus the other Eagle.
There were no hills in the depo zones and terrain played no real part in the battle.
Early Game;
I got first turn and managed to burn down the crew of a Bolt Thrower and cast Wall of Fire on the Spears [killing a few]. 2 Cannons misfired [one not being able to shoot for next turn either, the other just failing this turn], one hit a Chariot dead on and I rolled a 1 to wound! the other rolled a 2 for the range and a 2 on the bounce and so fell short!!!.
The enemy advanced, besides the Spears because of Wall of Fire. Shooting killed 2 Handgunners. Magic was nullified besides Commandment of Brass on 1 Hellblaster.
My Captain Charged an Eagle who fled and he also stole the Archmages Fireball. My Cannons again failed with misfires and bounces, 1 did hit a Chariot dead on though and killed it. My Hellblaster that could fire, killed a few White Lions [they passed a lot of 6+ saves].
My Handgunners shot down the other Eagle. Gorman miscast but didnt hurt himself, he did end my Wall of Fire though because of it.
The Elves came onwards [Eagle Rallied], the Chariot on my left flank coming out from behid the bowmen who had to form up into 2 ranks to get out of its way. The Spears now moved. Burning Head caused 1 wound on my Halberds with Lord and sent them panicing!, the Bolt Thrower killed 2 more Handguns. The lower mage miscast and died though, taking some White Lions with him.
The Armies Engage;
My Captain charged the Archers, my Halberds rallied [thankfully!]. My Magic did very little, maybe killing a couple of White Lions but my lower Wizard miscast, ending the phase.
My Hellblaster shot down some White Lions in front of it, my cannons mostly misfired again although 1 killed some Spearmen. The other Hellblaster shot the remaining Lion Chariot to shreds.
The Captain killed 3 Archers although the Pegasus lost a wound, he ran them down and ran straight into the Eagle behind them.
The White Lions furthest on my left flank charged my 6 man Handgun detatchment, the others charged my Hellblaster. They killed the crew and ran into a Cannon. The Lions against my Handguns killed 5, the last men fled but was not caught. My Captain wounded the Eagle twice but it took my Pegasus down to its last wound.
I moved my Halberds back up, my Hellblaster turned and shot the White Lions [only about 5 left] with the Archmage who was now behind my lines after killing the Handgunners [the last man fleeing off the table]. Killing them all after my Cannon [deep in my lines] failed with its Grapeshot, misfiring.
My Beast Wizard cast Bears Anger on himself. The other White Lions butchered my Cannon crew.
The remaining White Lion unit [now only about 5 models strong] turned to face my last cannon. The Spears with Noble charged my Handgunners killing them all and overrunning towards my Halberds.
My Cannon Grapeshotted the White Lions about to charge it, I got a 2 on the strength and it failed to wound. Wall of Fire killed a few though. The Spearmen charged my Halberds and got some Free Company in the flank. Gorman accepted the Nobles challenge. 3 Attacks and I have a Ward Save and 3 wounds, I thought id survive and crush him with my Flaming Sword. 3 Wounds, 2 saved, then I had to re-roll because of that cursed Talisman and he died!!. The Spearmen killed some Halberds but lost some of their own, I won combat by 3 but they held.
Endgame;
The White Lions charged the Cannon, losing a few more to Wall of Fire but killing the crew.
The Noble then cut down my Bears Anger mage!!, d**n him!. But I won combat again, this time breaking and catching them.
The Bolt Thrower Sniped my Captain off the Pegasus.
I finished the Bolt Thrower with a Cannon shot and shot down the last White Lion [only surviver] with the Hellblaster.
Empire win by 700 VP's
Solid Victory to the Empire.
A Solid Victory but it would have been a massacre if that Noble hadnt owned my Wizards, he got his army nearly 700 points alone. That was annoying. I was impressed by my magic, it dominated the Elf magic and caused lots of damage. My units held up fine once the enemy reached me and my Hellblasters were reliable, making up for how rediculous my Cannons were with misfires. The Captain did a decent job and my magic defense was solid. I will have to remember how lethal the Talisman of Loec is in future games, I didnt realise it made ME re-roll passed saves!.
Snotgob was getting restless, the Empire force had beaten the High Elves, wiping them out at great cost. Gormans horse had been cut from under him, the mighty gelding trapping his unconscious body, the other Wizard had also been cut down by the Chracian Nobles mighty axe. The Empire force although victorious, was in dissaray, only the Priests fiery rhetoric holding the weary men together. With a wicked grin Snotgob signalled the attack, his Night Goblins surged forth from hidden tunnels and swarmed the wounded and weary humans, cutting them down with ease as night begun to set. The Priest fought his way to Gorman and dragged him from the field of battle but Snotgobs holdings were safe for a time at least.

18 Warriors; Khorne, Shields, FC. 17 Warriors; Shields, FC. 17 Warriors; Great Weps, Nurgle, FC. 30 Marauders; FC, Shields, LA, Tzeentch.

19 Greatswords; FC. Detatchment - 8 Halberds Detatchment - 6 Handguns
25 Spears; FC Detatchment - 10 Halberds Detatchment - 10 Handguns
10 Handguns;
12 Flagellants;
Pre Game Thoughts;
I was pretty confident that my army could defeat this one in combat without my shooting, but with it, I should weaken them enough to be able punch through some units with my Knights and Lector, allowing me to hit the tougher units in the rear once they got bogged down with my Flagellants and Greatswords.
The Storm was over, Middenheim had endured. Its armies though had been weakened and depleted, Warbands of the Dark Gods still stalked the lands of stoic Middenland. Preying on the weak.
The Storm had brought the people of Middenland one saving grace in these dark times. Faith. The people believed that they had been delivered by Ulric himself, that he had spared his peoples doom. The common man had now taken up arms to clear their homeland of this dark stain. Though they could not achieve this noble aim without organisation.
Aslan Vormack, one of two High Priests of Ulric, second only to the Ar Ulric himself contemplated on the matter. On how best to use this tide of devotion. Not like the doom mongers of Sigmar, these men did not seek their own death but that of the enemies of Ulric.
He had seen the devotion that Sigmars War Alter had inspired in its faithful, he would build an Alter to Ulric from which to take the fight to the enemy. No finely decorated alter would this be though, his would be rugged and sturdy, a Wagon of War as beffited his Warrior God.
He had word from the Grandmasters of both the Knights Panther and Knights of the White Wolves, that they were totally committed to his cause. The White Wolves eager to blood their new recruits in the wake of losing so many veteran Knights during the great siege.
Even the Elector Count Boris Todbringer had apportioned him 2 full regiments of brave Halberdiers along with a supporting Handgunner regiment plus a mighty Great Cannon to smash any enemy fortifications the Warbands may have constructed since the siege. He had even salvaged an ancient Hellblaster Volley Gun, the older and more compact MarkI guns long since been abandonned for the newer, higher calibre weapons.
Along with the devoted Wolf Kin, the men and women who had lost all and now took up arms to fight the minions of the enemies of Ulric, fearless and with nothing left to lose. His force was in place to clear the stain of the Storm from Middenland once and for all.
The Long March;
I got first turn, my cannon not bouncing and killing nobody thanks to it. The Chaos force advanced, I mainly shut down their magic besides Regen on the Nurgle unit.
My shooting again amounted to very little. Killing a single Nurgle Warrior.
They continued their advance, the Fast Cav throwing Spears at my Alter and doing no damage. Magic did kill some of my Knights Panther on my right flank.
My shooting killed a little more this turn. Dropping a total of about 4-5 Warriors now that my Handguns were in range. My Hellcannon failing to hurt the Sorc Lord on Disk thanks to 5 passed wards.
His magic killed my Knights down to just one model and the Priest, Buboes having killed the champ earlier. I also lost the champ from the Knights on my left flank.
Initial Clashes;
My Alter charged the Horsemen whilst my Knight and Priest charged at the Khorne Warriors behind, I would resolve the Alter combat first and so the over run would let it fight again against the Warriors but the Horsmen fled and so both of my units hit the Khorne Warriors. My shooting reduced the undivided Warriors to 12 models. My Alter got off its lore of light spell, choosing the 6th I wounded the Sorc Lord, and a few Warriors from a few units. Soulfire also killed a pair of Khorne Warriors. My Hellblaster could just get LOS to the Disk Lord and with 24 Shots, killed him.
My Lector challenged the Khorne champ. Killing him. In total I did 6 wounds for none in return and I ran down the Warriors.
The Horse rallied and Chaos continued their advance. Magic now stunted although I did lose another Knight on my right flank. The 6th Death spell also went off and killed a few models from a few units.
Decisive Combats;
My unit of 3 Knights with a Priest on my right flank charged the depleted Warrior unit of now 12 models. I got of the prayer to allow the Priest Re Rolls and I also made the unit Unbreakable in case I didnt win. I won the combat by one though, breaking and catching the Warriors. My Knights turned to face the flank of the Nurgle unit and my lone Knight with Priest the rear.
The Nurgle unit charged my Handgunners, I chose to flee, taking the unit off the board and causing the charge to fail. The Marauders hit my Spears out on my left flank.
The Halberd Detatchment swung around and got me a kill, the Marauders killed 2 Spears but lost another man in return. They needed a double 1 to hold, and got it!.
My Flagellants had to charge the Nurgle unit in the front whilst my Lector hit the flank and Knight and Priest the rear. I got my Light Spell off. Killing a few along with 2 Horsemen nearby, Soulfire was stopped from both the Priest and Lector though. I caused masses of wounds, killing all of the unit besides the Champion and Sorcerer. The Champ then went and killed 3Flagellants single handedly. They broke though, not getting their insane courage roll and were ran down.
The Marauders rolled well, killing some Spears and Halberds but I also killed 3 Marauders in return thanks to some good rolls. They broke and were caught. My Handgunners also shot down the last few Horsemen. Wiping the enemy out.
Result - Win
Massacre for the Empire!
Post Game Thoughts;
Everything went pretty much to plan, my Knights punched through were the enemy was weakened. With their casualties from magic though, I didnt think the unit without Alter support would do it, but they did a great job and smashed on through. My Prayers were also pretty effective, giving me a magic phase a lot like Tomb Kings. My opponent unable to stop it all.
My shooting was pretty abysmal for the first few turns, thankfully it was made up for with the fact I didnt misfire all game, although my Hellblaster on the 3 turns it fired did roll 5 2's out of the 9 dice. Thankfully in one turn it got 26 shots and blasted that Sorc Lord.
That failed charge on my Handguns with the Nurgle unit left them vulnerable as without the Hand Wep/Shield Combo, they just cant take a charge, even the Flagellants [thanks to Frenzy, Hatred and Flails] managed to kill 3.
I am very pleased with my list, it works well in every phase and is fun to use.
This Warriors player has now decided to alter his list to have 3 Lvl2's [total of 10 Power Dice though], an Exalted on Disk with Helm, Halberd and Shield for a Warmachine hunter. Dropping a few of the Marauders and adding in 2 units of 6 Hounds. As he had 3 games earlier in the week, massacring other Chaos Warriors but only managing a minor victory and a draw against Dwarfs and Empire. He hopes these changes will give him a better shot against enemies who can put out decent firepower.
The path the brutish Northmen had set was clear and now Aslan Vormack with his faithful of Ulric lay in wait before the fortified coaching in that was undoubtedly to be their next target. He wanted to meet them in open battle, the warriors of Ulric sick and tired of fighting from behind their high walls and fortifications. They would meet the enemy in open battle and show them the power of a true Warrior God.
The Chaos Warband marched into the forest clearing, crude warriors hammering their shields and shouting praises to their dark gods. Not halting for a single step in the face of the Ulrican army.
Aslan surveyed his troops from atop his War Wagon of Ulric, an old reliable Kislev War Wagon that had fought the minions of the Dark Gods for longer than Aslan had lived, its armoured sides hung with Wolf Pelts, its front addorned with a massive silver wolfs head, from the gate of the temple of Ulric in Middenheim itself.
The fire of Handguns roared from behind him, the first line of the enemy warband falling into the dirt, their fellows stamping over them so eager were they to get to grips with the Ulricans. The Hellblaster erupted, tearing a Sorcerous Disk Rider limb from limb and sending him plummeting to the ground. As the acrid smoke from his blackpowder guns drifted along his lines Aslan smiled, a man content.
With a deafening roar, drowning out even the thunder of the Great Cannon, he signalled the charge.
His mighty War Wagon, the noble Knights Panther in their Blue Lacquered armour and with their deadly lances, the fearsome White Wolves, brutal Warhammers held high. All thundering towards the minions of weak and evil gods, the savage Wolf Kin in their wake.
His smiled again moments before his Wagon hit home into an enemy regiment, his wild hair whipping behind him such was the momentum of his charge.
None could stand before the true might of Ulric!

Game 3 - Vs Vampire Counts - 2000 Points
I used my Ulrican list.
My opponents list was as follows;
Lord; Lvl3, Dreadlance, Red Fury, Dread Knight, Crown. Raise Skellies. Vamp; Lvl2, Hand Wep, Shield, Heavy Armour. Vamp; Lvl2, Hand Wep, Shield, Heavy Armour. Book of Harkon. Wight; BSB, Sword of Kings, Gem of Blood, Heavy Armour, Barded Steed, Shield.
17 Skellies; FC 17 Skellies; FC 17 Skellies; FC
6 Wolves; 5 Wolves;
5 Black Knights; FC 5 Blood Knights; FC
A new threat had risen unnoticed whilst the Empire fought its wars against Chaos, the dead were restless once again, the Vampires growing bold. Now many such creatures sought to take advantage of a weakened Middenland.
With his holy crusade of Ulric having scattered many of the Chaos Warbands, Aslan Vormack could now turn his attention to the foul Undead.
Manfreds arrival at the siege of Middenheim had not seen open battle between the Vampire Count and the Empire but already Manfreds return was showing.
A whole chapter house situated deep in southern Nordland of the Knights of the Wounded Bear had been bled dry in a single night by the Dark Count. Now they lived again, its most powerful warriors having been given the blood kiss by Manfreds more powerful Thralls.
They marched south into northern Middenheim on a path of destruction, they spared none and preyed on the weak, adding to the ranks of their swelling Undead force with the people of defenceless villages, the people those Knights had once sworn to protect.
Boris Todbringer could not allow this rampage to go unchecked despite much of his forces still defending more important settlements from reknewed Beastmen raids. So he appointed a regiment of the mighty Tuetogen Guard to Aslans command and requested his Ulrican crusade to head north to combat this new threat.
Early Game;
I got first turn, my Cannon aimed at the Battle Standard but it didn't bounce.
The Undead advanced and raised some Skellies. Black Knights down my right, Blood Knights down my left.
I shot down some Hounds to get a LOS on the Blood Knights with my Hellblaster, only killing one. My Handguns killed a few Black Knights. My Cannon shot down a Blood Knight.
The depleted Hounds charged my Hellblaster, the crew fled and were caught. Some Zombies got raised in front of my Knights Panther on my Right and I lost some to Curse of Years.
My Cannon shot at the Battle Standard again. He failed his Look Out Sir and I killed him. The rest of my shooting didnt do much.
Forces Clash;
The Black Knights charge my White Wolves who are now quite central. I have made them Unbreakable though. I lose my Champion in the challenge with the Lord who gets max overkill, I lose 1 more Knights but do 2 wounds back. I stay in the fight because I am Unbreakable. The Zombies further moved up to get in the way of my Knights Panther.
The Zombies how now left their flank open to my Alter, so I charged in. Smashing them and over running into the Vamp Lords unit who was fighting my White Wolves. I challenged the Lord as he was on the unit edge of the flank I had charged, doing a wound, the Impact Hits killing some more Black Knights. The Lord and unit crumbled from combat res. My Flagellants charged the Hounds who killed the Hellblaster, killing them and running off the board. My Shooting kills the other unit of Hounds.
The Blood Knights and a unit of Skellies charged one of my Handgun Detatchments. Whilst another Skellie charged my depleted White Wolves who were no longer Unbreakable. Out on my right flank, the last Skellie unit charged my Knights Panther, just being in range. All 3 of my units broke [the Wolves losing due to Skellies killing 2 of them!], both Knight units getting away but staying on the board. This left the Blood Knights at the bottom of a hill in front of a lot of Handguns. The Skellies that beat my Knights panther over run into my Spears, the unit that beat the Wolves, over running into my Greatswords. This turn put the game back into contention.
My guns open up, killing the Blood Knights. The Skellies that over ran with the Blood Knights turn to face the table edge from where the Flagellants will be returning. My Spears and Greatswords both win their combats by decent margins and my Knights all rally. My Flagellants return but get out of the Skellies charge arc. My Cannon did misfire and die though.
Closing Stages;
The Skellies turn again to face my Flagellants. In the big combats, I continue to grind down Skellies thanks to my Halberd Detatchments in the flanks.
My Flagellants charge the last unengaged Skellie unit, doing 4 wounds on the Vamp itself thanks to Hatred, Frenzy and Flails, but he passed 3 saves. I also kill a few Skellies but lose a few of my unit. My Greatswords and Spears finish off the Skellies and Vamps they are fighting thanks to combat res.
In the last turn, the Skellies and Flagellants continue to battle it out, neither unit able to wipe out the other. Leaving me facing 1 Vamp with a depleted Skellie unit. I had only lost a Detatchment of Handgunners, half of each Knight unit and my War Machines.
Result - Win
Massacre to the Empire!
Post Game Thoughts;
My opponent actually played very well in this game in a lot of areas and I made some mistakes, letting the Wolves charge my Hellblaster thinking they were out of range, d**n 18'' charge!, his Black Knights getting the charge on my White Wolves, thankfully I nullified that mistake by taking most of the hurt on my Champion from his Lord and making the unit Unbreakable with a prayer.
The turning point though was the mistake he made with the zombies, moving up to try to take my Knights Panther out of the game but leaving his flank open to the War Alter which let it rampage through the flanks of his force.
He started a come back by getting the charges off with his infantry, on my Knights!, I thought he would be just out but was wrong. Thankfully my Knights rallied and my Infantry held well.
All in all, I managed to nullify my mistakes thanks to my Prayers and War Alter getting down the flanks, so it didnt cost me the game. I was very impressed with the list.
Aslan had smashed the foul leader of Undead himself, crushing its skull with his hefty cavalry hammer. The Undead had been defeated with the loss of its leader but not only had his cavalry, both the White Wolves and Knights Panther suffered serious losses, one Vampire had escaped. Without the cavalry left to run it down Aslan knew it would return with another army of the dead. With a heavy heart he turned his men back from Middenheim to recoup their losses, hoping they could return in haste to hunt down the foul Vampire.

Game 4 - Vs Vampire Counts - 2000 Points
This game is a rematch against the Blood Dragons I had just played as I wanted to use my Dogs of War under an Empire rules set, here is the list I used;
PayWagon - Arch Lector;, Alter, Dawn Armour, Speculum, Great Wep. Paymaster - Captain;BSB, Full Plate, Barded Steed, Dragon Bow, Icon of Magnus. Captain - Pegasus, Pistol, Lance, Full Plate, Shield, Casket. Wizard - Lvl2, Doomfire Ring, Powerstone.
25 Pikes/Spears; Full Command Detatchment - 8 Duellists/Free Company. Detatchment - 10 Crossbows.
10 Crossbows;
5 Knights; Musician.
18 Paymasters Bodyguard/Greatswords; FC. Detatchment - 6 Handguns Detatchment - 8 Halberds
1 Mortar/Halfling Hotpot; 1 Cannon;
3 Maneaters; Heavy Armour, Braces of Handguns.
Old Andrak had been called out of retirement for one last campaign, he had not been able to make it north in time to aid his once beloved Empire in the titanic seige of Middenheim but an offer had come in from Boris Todbringer for him to gather an army to halt an Undead Horde intent on picking the ailing Empire clean.
He had agreed, not for the money, although the offer was handsome but to do the right thing one last time. Boris was a man he had fought under on a few occasions when he was a lowly road warden in his distant past, he was a man worthy of respect, a man worth fighting for.
He had called on his old friends, many of them like him, now retired having made their fortune.
Andreas Suthernio was now reaching middle age, the once dashing young general still haunted by his ordeal in the deserts of Nehekera, almost being eaten alive by undead beetles. His fame had endured but his fortune had not, having drank and partied it away in the attempt to forget the moment the ground gave way beneath his feet in those blazing deserts. Strapped of cash and his glory fading, the general was the first to answer his call to arms.
Young Thyruss Gellam, well not so young anymore, was a staple in Andraks armies back in the day, the young man always strained and exhausted from the monumental task put on him to thwart enemy magics with his counter magics. The young man had grown into a powerful mage since Andraks retirement and would be a powerful addition to his army.
His glorious Pay Wagon had undergone many enchantments thanks to the riches he now owned and many of its Veteran crew were still active Mercs and easy enough to round up.
The crew of his infamous Halfling Hotpot had been hired as cooks in his grand home and were more than willing to launch their bizarre weapon at an enemy one last time. He even tracked down the old Cathayan master gunner who had aided him in the southern deserts, now blind in one eye and down on his luck, trying to sell 'mystical' Cathayan trinkets in the fortess city of Malko. His former crew were now sucessful merchants running a chain of a food stalls but were easily persuaded to stand beside their former mentor and master for old times sake.
Skogg and his mighty Ogres were already in the Empire, crushing Beastheards for the Empire and was ecstatic that his old Paymaster was taking to battle once more.
Andrak would pay one last debt to the Empire he had abandonned
Early Game;
Vamps got first turned, did a bit of raising.
My Peg Captain flew behind the Black Knights. I stole Nehek off the Lord with the casket!, I also got the first Light Spell off, killing a Black Knight. My cannon killed a few skellies. My Crossbows, Peg Caps Pistol and my Hanguns took the Black Knights down to one model, stupidly in the middle of my shooting phase I shot 1 crossbow unit at the Blook Knights, I killed one, but had I focussed my fire, I would have wiped out the Black Knights.
The Vamps brought back a Black Knight, rose a large Zombie unit and cast Wind of Undeath making a Spirit Host with a total of 6 wounds.
The Hounds moved up to block some LOS from my Handgunner Detatchment and Wizard.
I tried to charge my Peg Cap into the flank of the Black Knights but he failed his fear test. My magic seen me get the 6th Light spell off, killing most of the Hounds and taking 2 of the 6 Spirit Host wounds. My Peg Cap failed to steal a spell this turn. I shift my Alter across to support my Greatswords with a flank charge if they are charged. My shooting finished the Black Knights, leaving the lord alone.
The Vamp Lord joins the BSB unit. The Zombies advance, The Blood Knights charge my Greatswords whilst the Spirit Host charges my Knights which stops my Detatchment supporting my Greatswords. The BSB charges out of his unit on his barded steed to halt my Alter though, hitting me in the flank. My Champion and a fair few Greatswords die but I hold thanks to Immuneto Fear and Stubborn I also killed one with my BSB and one from my stand and shoot. The Spirit Host loses a wound to combat res. The Wight King BSB does a wound on my Lector thanks to the Gem of Blood but also loses a wound, drawing the combat.
Forces Clash;
My plan to rescue my Greatswords now stalled I use my Power Stone and get the 6th Light Spell off, causing serious damage. Wiping out the Blood Knights, Wight BSB, a few Zombies and a fair few Skellies. My Maneaters smashed into the Zombies killing half the unit whilst my Peg Cap stole Nehek off another Vamp, leaving only 1 with it and stunting their rasing capacity even further. Spirit Host loses another wound and it also lost 1 from my Light Spell. My shooting starts blasting some Skellies.
A vamp unit charges my Greatswords, the Lord and Skellie unit he had joined charge the flank of my Alter, we cause no damage to each other thanks to the Speculum. My Greatswords beat the Skellies and more die through combat res.
All my shooting including a perfect Mortar shot and all my Crossbows and Maneaters handguns go on the rearmost Skellie unit including the only Vamp left with Nehek, wiping them out. The Lector and Lord do a wound to each other. Whilst my Maneaters and Peg Cap move to either flank of that combat ready for some flank charges. The Greatswords with BSB continue to beat the Skellies. My Cannon did misfire and kill itself this turn though.
Closing Stages;
The Vamp Lord uses Wind of Death to summon another spirit host to block my Maneaters from charging the flank of the Alter combat.Again no wounds are caused in that challenge. My Greatswords with BSB wipe out their Skellie opponents as they can no longer raise any back.
My Peg Cap tries to charge the flank of the last remaining combat but fails another Fear Test. My Lector finishes the Vamp Lord though, leaving just a few Skellies. I had all my units left besides my Cannon, quite a few were under half strength though.
Result - Win
Massacre to the Empire!
Post Game Thoughts;
This game went pretty much to plan, my Peg Cap despite his lack of courage did a fantastic job, shooting down Cav with his pistol, march blocking and stealing 2 of 3 invocations. Completely stunting enemy raising. This did make my opponent go for some different spells that actually worked well for him, Curse of Years decimated my Spears and Greatswords and his created Spirit Hosts and Zombies took my Knights and Ogres out of the game.
My opponent also learnt from the last game and stopped my flank charge with his Hero Hunter Wight BSB charging out of his unit to stall my Alter from flank charging. Thankfully my magic phase worked very well this game and that Power Stone helping me to get off that big lore of light spell freed up my Alter and killed his Blood Knights who were in the process of chopping up the Greatswords.
My shooting in this game was also much more impressive, especially the mortar, in one turn I took down about 15 Skellies along with a Vamp, at long range. I think the added range on my firepower, the march blocking and the fact that I really stunted his raising power all helped to make my shooting very effective.
Again, my Infantry was capable of beating the Undead infantry once I had dealt with their Cavalry.
The BSB was a new idea for my opponent who usually runs another Lvl2 Vamp kitted out the same as his others instead. For 11 Power, 5 on +1 to cast. He makes up for the loss of those 2 power dice with the book in this list though.
His army had arrived with quite the fanfare considering the hard times the Middenlanders were under. The people knew that the state could not spare them any men and that these mercenaries were their only hope.
Andrak was greeted by a High Priest of Ulric uppon entering Middenland, a short but stocky bear of man named Aslan Vormack. In a gesture of good faith and trust he had presented Andrak and his captains with mighty artifacts of the Empire in order to combat such a dire threat. Boris Todbringer sanctioning it himself.
Thyruss recieved one of the deadly rings of fire with which to burn the unholy undead. Andreas the mysterious Casket of Sorcery in order to suck the foul magics from their Vampiric foes. His trusty crossbow and mighty War Wagon were both blessed by the fierce priests of Ulric before his army headed further north to meet their foe.
****
The battle raged around him, crossbows sending hails of bolts into their undead foes, hoping to find the heart of one of the foul Vampires as his Cathayan gunners and Halflings launched their artillery at rank upon rank of Skeletal Swordsmen.
He held his breath as a unit of Vampiric Knights lowered their lances and charged towards him and his loyal boadyguard. A shot from his blessed crossbow punching one Knight from his snorting steed. Their charge hit home with tremendous force. Andraks whole unit buckling with the impact, in some places single lances had impaled 2 men at once. The line held strong though and Andrak pushed his steed into the melee, smashing his shield, a not so subtle treasure chest lid into the face of one Vampire, unhorsing him. His bodygaurd followed his lead, their heavy halberds dragging Knights out of their saddles.
A wave of light forces Andraks eyes closed, when he opened them again the remaining Vampire Knights were nothing but burning husks. He turned to see Thyruss, a stone of power in his hand, an inner light fading within it, its power now spent.
His Pay Wagon crashed into the enemy Lord, the arrogant beast underestimating it, his lance bouncing of its enchantments. The crew of the Wagon blasted at him and his unit with fussilades of fire from their handguns and pistols, releasing enchantments from many holy artifacts contained in the treasure with which they were to be paid, seeing more and more undead fall to the dirt, the magics holding them together now severed. In a mighty swing of his Halberd one of the crew severed the arm of the vampire lord, it staggered back before being dropped by a barrage of shots from the crews blackpowder weapons. Before the Lord could stand the Wagon thundered forwards once again, its iron shod wheels popping the Lords head like a rotting pumpkin.
Andreas soared around the battlefield, felling enemies with his duelling pistol and draining dark magics with his casket of sorcery. He no longer had the nerve to fight the enemy head on but his contributions were stopping the Undead replenishing their ranks.
Mighty Skogg and his Ogre Maneaters crushed the last resistance, smashing Skeletons into dust with the buts of their massive pistols.
His men cheered at their victory, at the gold they had won, at the thrill of a battle survived. They cheered for him, their old Wardog of a Paymaster and he knew he would miss it but this was the last time for him.
Andrak had repaid his debt, he could now return home to his family with his mind at peace and live out the rest of his retirement with no regrets.

Game 5 - Vs Warriors of Chaos - 2000 Points
My opponent from the second game has changed his list it is now as follows;
Exalted; Tzeentch, Disk, Eye, Halberd, Shield. Sorc; Lvl2, Nurgle, Puppet. Sorc; Lvl2, Slaanesh. Sorc; Lvl2, Power Fam, Book.
17 Nurgle Warriors; Great Weps, Full Command. 17 Undivided Warriors; Shields, Full Command. 18 Khorne Warriors; Shields, Full Command. 25 Marauders; Shields, LA, Tzeentch, Full Command.
5 Horsemen; Musician. Slaanesh, Throwing Spears. 5 Hounds; 5 Hounds;
I used my Ulrican List.
Aslans force was rested and recieved more warriors from both the Knights Panther and White Wolves. His sucess ensuring a steady supply of state troops to bolster his ranks and with every victory, more of the ferocious Wolf Kin heeded his call to arms.
He had recieved knews of a Chaos Enclave in the very north of Middenland at the base of the middle mountains. Led by a mighty sorcerer of the winds of Death, it was even rumoured that this fell creature also dabbled in the arts of Necromancy, was this worshipper of Chaos also a catalyst for the restless dead now plauging his lands? If he could be defeated it would help to elminate two threats to the security of Middenland.
Pre Game Thoughts;
This list was certainly better than his last one but I dont really have any proper march blockers in my list anyway, I would focus my fire on the Khorne unit as I didnt fancy fighting them in combat. My Knights and Flagellants should hit the Nurgle Units hard enough to minimise return attacks whilst my Lector could hold up a unit on his own.
Early Game;
There was a hill in my deployment zone, a ruined temple out on the right flank and a rocky outcrop on the left both which could be used to cover his advance a little. My Cannon killed a Khorne Warrior.
The Horsemen and some Hounds darted down my right flank whilst the Disk Rider and more Hounds went left. The Infantry stuck to the centre, Magic killing 2 of my White Wolves on my left flank.
I held my line, my Wolves angling out on my right flank a little so any charges would have to hit their front, I was confident their S5 and Hatred could let them take a charge from any fast cav. My shooting blasted some Khorne and Undivided Warriors down.
The Disk Rider tried to charge my 6 Handgun unit out on my far left flank, I chose to flee leaving him in front of my Knights. Hounds got in my Knights way to try to hold them up from getting at that Disk rider whilst the rest of the force advanced, the other Hounds unit got in a position to bait my Flagellants. Magic killed 2 more Knights from my Wolves, seeing them panic! but stay on the board. The Slaanesh Shriek spell also paniced a Halberd detatchment of my Spears. Who also stayed on the board. The Nurgle Sorcerer sniped my Knights Panther champ.
Early Clashes;
My units all rallied. My alter charged the Undivided Warriors, my Knights the Hounds, my Flagellants the other Hounds. My shooting continues to blast down the Khorne unit. I also fell some Marauders with the Hellblaster, misfiring and killing itself but getting the 30 shots off. In combat I kill the Hounds with the Knights Panthers and run into his Exalted. My Flagellants kill the other Hounds and over run whilst my Alter does a whole 0 wounds.
The infantry that can, continues its advance, ready to charge next turn. Magic taking down my last White Wolf, leaving just the Priest. Hellshriek panicing my Handgunners off the table. The Exalted is killed by my Priest in a challenge. The Lector continues to fail to kill the unit champ thanks to Regen.
My rallied Halberd Detatchment moves back up to support the Spears for the inevitable charge this turn. My Knighst turn to face the flank of the Alter combat. My shooting brings the Khorne unit down to 6 models. My Flagellants turn to face the flank of the Nurgle unit.
Faith and Steel;
The nurgle unit and Marauders charge my Handgunners, wiping them out. The Khorne unit charges my Spears and take some Halberds in the flank. They get 6 kills!, but I get 1 kill so I win the combat by 1. The Khorne unit holds. My Lector still cant kill that Regenerating unit Champ. Hellshriek panics my Greatswords with Priest but they just stay on the board!
Greatswords rally. My Knights smash into the flank of the Warriors fighting the Lector. My Flagellants move towards the Nurgle unit, out of charge range thanks to their over run. I finally get an effective Prayer off, the 6th light spell killing all the Khorne Warriors from that nearby combat. The Knights do some damage and the Lector finally kills the champ, I break the unit and the Knights run them down.
The Nurgle unit turns to face my lone mounted Priest to let the Undivided Sorc hit him with Steal Soul, having earlier killed his unit with Death Spell magic missiles. He takes a wound off the Priest. The Marauders turn towards my hill and their Slaanesh Sorc uses his magic missile to kill 2 Cannon crew. The Horsemen keep throwing Spears at my Priest but cant hurt him.
My flagellants are forced to charge the Nurgle flank, I kill 3 but lose 2 because the Sorc is on the flank. The Alter casts the ITP spell so as to not have units panic on me in his last turn with that annoying Shriek spell!.
The Nurgle unit wipes out the Flagellants, leaving a half strength Nurgle unit, 2 Sorcerers and a below half strength Marauder unit plus the Horsemen against my Cannon, Greatswords, Knights Panther, Alter and Spears + some Detatchments.
Result - Win
Solid Victory to the Empire.
Post Game Thoughts;
Well his new list certainly performed better and his magic worked very well, that Shriek spell constantly messing up my battle line. His baiting with his Hounds and magic missiles also ensured my Flagellants and White Wolves couldn't deal with his Nurgle Unit. My plan worked on my left flank though, shooting and Spears dealing with the Khorne unit, although only thanks to the Lector and a Light Spell. The Lector really struggled to kill a single unit champ, thankfully my Knights Panther bailed him out after killing the Exalted.
Overall I was pretty pleased with my army, it did what I wanted it to do.
The enemy stood before them, silent and menacing. His men were un-nerved, they were used to screaming chanting northmen, not this.
With a horrific shriek the enemy advanced. The piercing psychic scream rattling his men, unlocking their inner most fears. His Priests roared the litanies of Ulric trying to strengthen their resolve.
The foul sorcerer at the head of the enemy force unleashed his dark arts at the Knights of the White Wolf, turning many of them to rotting husks within seconds, ageing them centuries with just a point of his warped wooden stave.
Realisng his army need to get to grips with the enemy his force charged, their ferocity and bravery taking the northmen off guard. On the back foot the forces of Chaos began to lose their nerve, falling back from the ferocity of the Ulricans, the lead of Handgun shot taking many down as they retreated.
One enemy formation endured though, a unit of hulking armoured Warriors, rotting and decayed, surrounded by a cloud of flies and lead by their dark sorcerer. Aslan did not know if these Warriors were re-animated corpses or not but they smashed through two units of his state troops with their heavy maces and hammers, slow and methodical in their slaughter. The fearless Wolf Kin launched themselves at the foul Warriors, screaming and hacking with the axes and hammers. Roaring praises to Ulric. These men had nothing left to live for and so feared nothing of the foul nature of their foe. Without fear as their ally, the Warriors were struggling. A tide of bezerkers, clad in crude wolf furs swarmed the enemy elite, drowning them in a wave of furious devotion.
The losses among the Wolf Kin were horrific but these men cared not, those that had died had died avenging those they had lost, axe or hammer in hand and that is all that they asked of Ulric and that was all he could ask of them.

Game 6 - Vs Vampire Counts - 2000 Points
3rd game of this blog against Vamps but it was against a different Vamps opponent. His list was as follows;
Lord; Great Wep, 2+ Save, Crown, +1 Combat Res, Lord of the Dead. Lvl3. Thrall; Fly, 2 Hand Weps, Heavy Armour, Wristbands. Thrall; Lvl2, Lord of the Dead. Book of Arkhan. Wight King; 5+ Killing Blow Sword.
20 Skellies; FC 20 Skellies; FC 20 Zombies; 20 Gravegaurd; FC
Black Coach; 5 Wraiths;
I used my Ulricans. Hill on my side of the table, temple on the right flank, rocky outcrop middle of the table on the left flank.
Pre Game Thoughts;
Well I dont think the list is near as powerful as the Blood Dragons or Strogoi Hordes I am used to facing, however my list just has no way to deal with Wraiths besides tying them down with the Alter but that is the only thing I have to can deal with the Lord. If my opponent uses his Wraiths well or gets Ethereal on his Coach, there isnt much at all I will be able to do. His dispell should be enough to stop my Prayers. I will have to try to get his Wraiths with my Knights Panther and hope my armour holds to win on combat res.
At least he only generates 8 power, although 7 of those are at +1 to cast for raising.
Aslan had forced the foul undead into hiding and his priests had located their last foul abode.
They had infected with the blood kiss some of the weak hearted noble houses of eastern Middenland, in an attempt to go into hiding and gather their strength. Brutal monsters hiding behind a veneer of sophistication.
One which Ulric could see right though, truth and honesty tennents of the Warrior god, and so those things could not be held from him. These dark aritocrats would burn and Middenland would be cleansed.
Early Game;
I got firs turn, the Cannon hitting the coach but it passed its Ward.
The Coach drains 2 dice from the lord, getting Scytches and Magic Res. Despite now only having 6 dice, he proceeds to roll masses of 6's and raises not only a new Zombie unit but about 15 Skellies to his 2 main units!.
All my shooting really does this turn is thin the Zombies now screening his Grave Guard. My Cannon sticking in the mud right in front of the Coach.
The Coach sucks 2 more dice, getting Killing Blow and Fly. Again despite only 6 dice, he raises about 15-20 more Skellies!.
My Knights Panther hit the Wraiths. My alter hits the now depleted Zombie screen. My Prayers do very little. I lose 1 Knight and so win by 1, wounding a Wraith. My Alter smashes the screen and over runs into the Gravegaurd with Lord. My Cannon finally come good though and smashed the Coach, thank Sigmar it didnt get Ethereal!.
Unstoppable Advance;
The Undead continued on. Magic healing the damage I did in shooting last turn. In combat the Vamp Lord wounds my Lector despite the Speculum, 2+ Re Rollable Save and 4+ Ward! I do nothing back... My Knights lose 4 Models!, the Priest breaks and is caught...
My Flagellants turn to face the Wraiths now deep in my lines thanks to their pursuit, I passed the Terror tests I had to take. My shooting takes quite a toll on the leftmost Skellie unit that wasnt quite as big. My Lector Wounds the Lord.
The Undead advance again, the flying Vamp bursting out of his unit, flying over my Greatswords and hitting my Hellblaster on the hill. The Wraiths charge a Handgun Detatchments, not wanting to engage the Greatswords because of the Priest and Soulfire. The Flying Vamp takes out my Hellblaster and holds his over run. The Wraiths wipe out my Detatchment. Lord and Lector fail to do any damage.
Charge!;
With the game slipping away and those Wraiths and Flying Vamp causing havoc I declare a massed charge. My Greatswords and Detatchment on the weaker Skellie unit, now with no Vamp support. My Spears with Detatchment on the huge Skellie unit with Vamp and Wight, my White Wolves on the Zombies with a unit of Handgunners in the flank. My Flagellants also have to charge the Wraiths. I wipe out the Zombies, kill most of the weaker Skellie unit on my left and win on my right thanks to my Halberds racking up the kills. My Lector also kills the Vamp Lord!. My Flagellants lose 10 models, leaving 2...
The flying Vamp now charges my Cannon. My Lector kills the Gave Guard champ. My last 2 Flagellants die. My Greatswords wipe out their opponents whilst my Spears continue to beat the other unit. The Flying Vamp wipes out my Cannon crew.
Closing Stages;
My Greatswords turn to face the Wraiths. My hill Handgunners turn to face the Vamp, so at least they would get 1 rank and outnumber. My Spears just win their combat again. My Lector now faces a lot of Killing Blow attacks with nobody left to challenge but he survives.
In the Undead last turn the Wraithscharge my Greatswords Halberd Detatchment, wiping them out. The Vamp charges my Handgunners, killing 4 and running them off the board. My Spears finally lose combat but hold strong as they still werent outnumbered. My Lector can not bring the Grave Gaurd under half strength.
This leaves. Wraiths, Depleted Grave Gaurd, flying Vamp, a few Skellies plus Wight and magic Vamp against my Alter, White Wolves, 10 Handguns, Greatswords and Spears.
Result - Draw!
Post Game Thoughts;
So close to the win, I was less than 20 points away from a minor victory. Those Wraiths were the problem as I thought they would be, killing 4 Knights in one turn really put a dent in my plans to stall them. My Lector also failing to do much damage against the Grave Gaurd lost me a lot of points too. I managed to pull the game back with practically my whole army charging, my Spears and Halberd Detatchment performing awesomely. Despite my opponent only having 8 power, he rose an unholy amount of Skellies and Zombies, I just could not stop his raising.
The Cannon just about managed the Coach but that Flying Vamp was a real pain, killing everything I had on my hill single handedly. Him and the Wraiths got my opponent the draw.I think he could have gotten the win if he would have charged the Wraiths an my Greatswords but he was worried about static res and Soulfire.
I wasn't too dissapointed as I fully expected to have a really hard time with the Wraiths, not really sure what to change to help that though really, besides maybe giving one of my Mounted Priests the Sword of Might.
The foul Vampires fought hard, fighting for their very survival. For the continuation of their immortal unlife. Ethereal Wraiths had hacked down his men, ghostly coaches crashing into his lines but the enemy was fading. Their mansions burned and their towns, who were no inhabbited by nothing but Zombies, were being put to the sword.
The Wolves had gathered in the edges of the forest, their howls echoing through the night. Aslan could sense that these Wolves were not shapeshifting Vampires, he could feel their noble spirit. Avatars of Ulric himself, he had sent his hounds to finish their holy work and Aslan would not deny his god the killing blow. He ordered his forces to retreat and left the surviving vampires to the mercies of the Wolves of Ulric.

Game 7 - Vs Orcs and Goblins - 2000 Points
The Orcs and Gobs list was as follows;
Grimgor; Black Orc Boss; Kickin Boots, Heavy Armour. Night Gob Shaman; Staff of Stealin. Night Gob Shaman; 2 Scrolls.
29 Big Uns; FC, Spirit Totem. 17 Black Orcs; FC, Banner of Butchery. 29 Night Gobs; 3 Fanatics. 29 Night Gobs; 3 Fanatics. 5 Squig Herds;
Orc Chariot; Orc Chariot;
I used my Ulrican List.
Having dealt with the threat of both foul Undead and insidious Chaos. Aslans attention now turned to an age old enemy. Girmgors tide of destruction during the Storm had left many Orcs in its wake and now one had risen up above the others, moddeling himslef on the mighty Warlord.
The threat had to be put down before it gathered into an unstoppable Waaagh, the Greenskins already bouyed by their recent victories.
Ulric would break the back of this emerging Waaagh. Early Game;
The orcs advanced, one unit of Gobbos failing animosity. Chariots on each flank. The Big Boss did kill 3 of his own unit thanks to animosity though.
My Flagellants moved right down the centre releasing some fanatics. My shooting did very little, killing 1 Black Orc and 3 Orcs. My Cannon rolling a 1 to wound a chariot.
The Orcs continued their advance, the Squigs charging my Flagelants, the other Night Gobs getting within 8'' of the flagellants to release more fanatics. Grimgors black orcs tried to keep out of LOS of my Alter and so their advance was slowed, using the Big Uns as a shield. The Squigs ate 6 of my Flagellants.
The Knights continued their shuffling stand off with the Orc Chariots on either flank. My Alter crashed out into the Big Un unit. The Alter killing 3 orcs and the Lector wounding the Big Boss for the loss of a wound. My Shooting blasted down some Night Gobs, my Cannon misfired. My Flagellants killed some Squigs but were wiped out.
Grimgor now no longer having the Lector and his Speculum to worry about started advancing again. Fanatics did some damage to both sides, one panicking my Handgun unit, they then fled and landed on the fanatic getting reduced to 2. Another fanatic hit a Handgun detatchment killing 4 and panicking them. They fled through my Hellblaster panicking it off the table. The last few hit the Squigs but only killed 2. In combat my Lector finished the Big Boss.
My Knights on my left flank charged the chariot, on my right they continued to avoid the other chariot darting insideits charge arc ready to charge some Gobbos. My shooting killed 5 Black Orcs, my Cannon rolling a 1 to wound a chariot again. My Lector killed a couple of Orcs. My Knights smashed the chariot on the left and over ran off the board.
Forces Close;
Grimgors unit continued their slow advance, whilst the Gobbos turne dto take the charge in the front. Squigs were still hampered in movement by fanatics. My Lector continued slowly killing Orcs.
My Knights hit a Night Gob unit, my other Knights returned to the board. My Halberd Detatchment from my Greatswords moved to intercept Grimgors boys so if they charged, my Greatswords would hit their flank. My Lector continued his slow grind of the Big Uns. The Knights broke the Goblins, running them down.
Not wanting to risk his unit, Grimgor charged the Detatchment alone who fled as a reaction, the Black Orcs moved to defend Grimgors flank, ready to take the charge of the Greatswords. Big Uns continued to lose boys to the Lector.
My Greatswords charged the Black Orcs, my White Wolves moved round to get at the rear of another Gobbo unit. My Knights Panther moved back on the board ready to hit the flank of the Big Un combat. My shooting continued on the Squigs were kept getting penned in by Fanatics. My Lector finally got the 6th Light spell off, killing some Black Orcs, wounding Grimgor, and killing some Big Uns. My Greatswords killed 5 Black Orcs, the champ hit back killing 2 Greatswords but the Orcs broke and were ran down as the Greatswords hit Grimgors flank.
Closing Stages;
Grimgor fought hard and held against the Greatswords.
My White Wolves hit the rear of a Gobbo unit breaking and catching them. My Knights Panther charged the flank of the Big Uns, finishing them off along with the Lector on Alter. My Priest challenged Grimgor and was cut down but Grimgor broke. Leaving just a couple of Squigs and a Chariot for the Orcs.
Result - Win
Massacre for the Empire!
Note - Have a pic for this games deployment I will upload tomorrow.

Game 8 - Vs Dark Elves - 2000 Points
The Dark Elf list was as follows;
Lord; Heavy Armour, Shield, Cloak. Deathpiercer, Ring of Hotek, Regen. Manticore.
Sorceress; 2 Scrolls. Assassin; Rending Stars, Manbane, 2 Hand Weps.
10 Spears; 5 Dark Riders; Bows 5 Dark Riders; Bows
Hydra; Hydra;
Chariot; Chariot;
18 Black Guard; Standard, Champ, ASF. 7 Shades; Great Weps.
I used my Ulricans.
The Orcs had been destroyed with ease, their unchecked savagry no matched for the controlled ferocity of Ulricans.
During their march back to Middenheim his force had been waylayed by a dishevelled man, bleeding and dressed in nothing but rags. He claimed that Elves had attacked his town in western Middenland, dragging its inhabitants back in chains to dark ships anchored on the Nordland coast.
Aslan did not trust the man, the look in the mans eyes when he mentioned the murderous Druchii was more of devotion than fear. The fact the man had called them Druchii at all also worried him, no simple villager would know the name by which the Dark Elves of Naggaroth called themselves.
His honourable spirit would not risk more people dragged into slavery though and his noble generals would also insist they make haste to battle the Druchii even with his suspicions and so they headed east to an undermanned section of the Nordland coast, Aslan ever wary of a trap.
Early Game;
Elves went first, advancing up. Dark Riders getting right up near my lines. Shooting killing 3 Handguns and panicking them despite Ld 9!. It also killed 3 of my 6 Handgun Detatchment.
Handguns rallied. My shooting opened up on the Manticore. Causing 2 Wounds, my Cannon overshot with a 10 on the artil roll. My Hellblaster then opened up, only needing two wounds I hit the Manticore 6 times, and dont do a single wound!!!.
This now leaves the Manticore to attempt to charge my Cannon, I flee. Leaving it exposed but Terror sees off a Halberd Detatchment and a full unit of Handguns off the board![both on LD9!!] Dark Riders then got in the way of my Alter to stop it hitting his Manticore Lord. Shooting killing a Hellblaster crew and some Spears. Hydra breath killing a Knight.
My Knights are all out on my left flank facing 2 Hydras and some Riders, my White Wolves charge the Riders who they run off the board. My Knights Panther attempt to charge a Hydra and fail their Fear[not Terror thanks to the Icon]. Alter charges some Riders, wiping them out, I had planned for him to over run into the Spears behind where another over run would see me away from the Assassins Stars but I over ran 5 not even reaching the Spears[who were about 6 away!]... My shooting did finish that Manticore though although the Hellblaster killed itself in a misfire.
Hydra Charge!;
2 Hydras charge my Knights Panther. A Chariot charges my Spears whilst the other fails Stupidity. Lord joins Black Guard. My Knights actually do damage thanks to so many Beastmasters a Knight and my Priest had to attack them, getting 3 wounds, I lost some Knights but won the combat, seeing 1 Hydra run. The Chariot single handedly beats my Spears but I hold. The Assassin destroys my Alter with his Stars and wounds him.
My Lector tries to charge a chariot it flees whilst my Flagellants move up, I go for broke iwth my Greatswords as the game is going horribly and they charge the Black Guard and the Detatchment in the flank, my Priest with Re Rolls and 4+ Ward thanks to Prayers is killed by the Lord. I still manage to win the combat but they hold. My White Wolves move around a rocky outcrop ready to hit the fleeing Hydra should it rally [with no Beastmasters now it was a long shot]. The Knights Panther fighting the other Hydra lose a Knight to the Beastmaster, the Hydra also kills one. All my Priest has to do is kill a Beastmaster to win me the combat [draw it but the Musician would see me win], 2 attacks and one from his horse later see not a single hit and my unit is autobroken off the table!!. My Spears cant break that lone Chariot!
The Shades and Assassin finish off my Lector, both the chariot and the Hydra rally. The Hydra that ran my Knights off turns and burns down the last 3 of a Handgun Detatchment. My Greatswords lose and fail their Stubborn test and are ran down!. My Spears finally break the Chariot but it escapes.
Closing Stages;
My White Wolves hit the rallied Masterless Hydra, causing 2 wounds but both saves are passed on a 6+, the Hydra then kills 3 Knights!, winning it the combat and breaking my Knights and catching them.... The Spears re charged the fleeing chariot, it flees so they re-direct into the other chariot, beat it and it runs off the board. My Flagellants hit the Spears and wipe them out.
The last stages of the game sees the Shades finish my Flagellants. I am left with a Spear unit and a Handgun unit facing some Shades, depleted Black Guard, Masterless Hydra, Hydra and Chariot.
Result - Loss
Massacre for the Dark Elves...
Post Game Thoughts;
I just could not believe how many times things went wrong for me in this game. I should have dealt with that Manticore turn 1 but for the Cannon getting a 10 and the Hellblaster not rolling a single 4+ to wound on 6 dice.
I managed to deal with it next turn although aI lost my Cannon, 10 Handguns and 10 Halberds thanks to a flee and Terror tests because of that first turns bad luck. All my Alter had to do was get 6 on 3 dice to over run, it got a 5 and so was doomed.
Then my Knights failing their Ld to charge the Hydra, thankfully because when I got charged I could hit the Beastmasters b ecause there were 4 of them it didnt matter so much.But when it then come to the crunch only needing to kill 1 Beastmaster with 3 attacks, the dice failed me again and seen me give 400 points away. My White Wolves then should have beat the other Hydra but somehow manage to lose a combat that they should have easily won by 2. Giving up another 400 points!! [Knights, Priest + Banner] My Stubborn Greatswords failing their first break test sealed the deal and confirmed my Massacre.
My Spears performed admirably, although in the end they only killed 1 chariot. The Dark Elves rallying whenever they needed and never failing any panic from my shooting.
I was quite happy with my choices in the game and with my list, I just rolled horribly this game. I tried to salvage some points back and was close [within 100 Points] of dropping it down to a Solid Victory. I think if i would have rolled anything close to average, i would have had that game.
It happens from time to time though, not much you can do about it. Playing on at least made me very proud of those brave Spearmen!
I have Ogres lined up for one of the last 2 games in this blog, not sure what the other will be yet.
A trap it had been!, the man must have been bewitched by foul sorcery, the inhabitants of the town had been taken into slavery but the Elves were prepared for their arrivial. Enemy skirmishers firing from rooftops as his men advanced through streets, the walls of which were lined with the skins of sacrifices to Khaine.
Dark Riders had flanked his force and as his army weakened at the unrelenting hail of arrows, two enormous cargo containers were opened on the windswept coastline beyond the town, unleashing a pair of monsterous Hydras, their wicked breath setting the town alight.
An evil lord of Khaine upon a ferocious Manticor swooped down on his army time and time again and Aslan raged at an enemy who would not engage him in honourable battle. The lord of Khaine momentarily lost control of his beast though and it descended upon his Hellblaster its rage building as the old war machine punched ragged holes in its batlike wings. Ripping into the machine much to the horror of its lord, the beast set off a mighty explosion, taking both the titanic monster and the hellblaster crew to their graves.
His glorious Knights were fighting vailiantly against the Hydras but they were dying, crushed beneath the Hydras massive bulk, the wounds they caused on the monsters healing in a heartbeat.
The Wolf Kin were cut down in a hail of dark shafted bolts, never even nearing their enemy.
In rage he charged Dark Horsemen who had drawn too near, crushing them beneath the bulk of his mighty wagon, his holy weapon of Ulric!, spotting a band of enemy skirmishers he continued his charge, bellowing his battle cries. A cloaked enemy dressed entirely in black stepped fowards and faster than the eye could follow hurled a barrage of throwing stars at his wagon, each one cutting into the exposed flesh of the powerful steeds that pulled it,finding any gap in their barding. The steeds faltered and fell, the yokes burying themselves into the ground, the Wagon was going to fast to stop and with a cracking of wood and an almighty crash it tumbled over itself, crushing Aslan beneath its weight. The enemy warrior smirked and left him to a slow and painful death, beneath the wieght of his own Wagon.
Aslan could see his steadfast state troops holding the enemy at bay, destroying enemy chariots on their sturdy spears. They fought their way towards him under the cover of handgunner fire, he was proud of these men, standing in the face of such slaughter. He faded into unconsciousness as the men started their attempt to enact a fighting withdrawl, his prone body carried safely in their ranks.

Game 9 - Vs Beasts of Chaos - 2000 Points
Never had a chance to play against Beasts this edition, I used my Dow Empire list;

The Beasts list was as follows;

Ambushers;
11 Gors; 13 Ungors; FC 11 Gors; 13 Ungors; FC 6 Hounds; 6 Hounds; + Characters.
Pre Game Thoughts;
I have always thought Beasts were best suited to fighting armies that relied quite heavily on Fire Power, much like my list here. Khazrak would also be a pain and I had a lot of heavy hitter to deal with on the table to start. I would deploy right against my edge to stop them getting in behind me so he would have to deal with cheap throw away missile units with his herds for a few turns, giving me time to stop the heavy hitters and then turn to face the new threat.
Andrak felt pretty rough. He and his men had drank one of the local taverns dry after their victory over the Undead, most of them now old veterans would finally be able to hang up their scabbards and retire, to settle down with their families.
The Drakwald was still dangerous but since the end of the Storm of Chaos, Boris Todbringer had worked tirelessly to rid his province of the taint of Chaos. He had launched an Ulrican crusade and even hired his veteran force of mercenaries. It would take a very brave or foolish Chaos worshipper or bandit band to launch an attack on his convoy of heavily armed men, all veterans and well equipped. He looked across at the Pay Cart, loaded with the riches from this one last campaign. Gold made many creatures do foolish things he mused.
Andrak knew he had a sixth sense of sorts, he could always sense an ambush or enemy attack, the simple fact that he was musing about one brought him fully to his senses. He forced down his hangover and another entirely knew form of nausea rose in the pit of his stomach. His old eyes darted left to right scanning the edges of the forests around them, still as keen as they were in his prime.
He caught a glimmer of movement. Not a man to take risks or to doubt his gut feelings he roared for his men to form up. No sooner had his men rushed into action an ominous sound rang out. The blaring of a crude War Horn. Perhaps he and his men would not live to see retirement after all.
Early Game;
Beasts went first. 2 Chariots down each flank, Drogers with Hound screens down the centre.
I opened up my shooting, busting a Chariot with a Cannon, killing some Hounds and a Dragon Ogre.
The Ambush was called, Khazrak and unit right in my right corner, the Wargor and unit in my left, each supported with a Hound unit. The Chariots and Drogers continued their advance.
I ignored the threats on my flanks for now. Shooting and Magic downing a few Hounds, wounding chariots, killing another Drogre and panicking the unit that was now down to 2 models. My Peg Cap charged the last Chariot on my right flank, doing a wound, the Beastigor did 0 wounds. The 6 S3 attacks from the steeds and Ungor then did 3 wounds on my Peg!, resulting in me breaking and getting caught.
Drogers rallied. Khazrak charged my Crossbow unit, the Wargors unit charging my Crossbows on the other flank. My Crossbows on my left fled. My unit fighting Khazrak was beaten and they over ran into my Handgun Detatchment. The other Drogre unit charged my Spears, 1 was down to 1 wound and my Halberd Detatchment killed it and did another 2 wounds, my Free Comp did another. I did lose a lot of Spears to their attacks but I won and broke them, catching them.
Surrounded!;
My Greatswords turned to face the threat on my left flank whilst my Alter moved across to try to deal with Khazraks unit. My Knights moved to take the charge from the Chariot on my right if I had to. My Ogres who had turned around last turn, now c harged the HOunds on my left killing them all. Magic did more damage to the rallied Drogres whilst my Cannon popped that Chariot on my right flank. Khazraks unit killed my Handguns.
Khazraks unit charged into my Cannon. The other Herd into my Greatswords [with no Detatchment support as I had sent the Halberds off to redirect the Drogers earlier but the Drogres had panicked anyway]. My Cannon was killed and he got a big over run and reached my Mortar. My Greatswords just lost the combat but held.
My Alter moved so that if Khazraks unit got to the rear of my Greatswords, he could then flank them. My magic whittled down the enemy to just 1 Drogre. My Ogres turned and finished a wounded Chariot bearing down on them with their Handguns. Leaving just 1 chariot for them to take a charge from. Khazraks unit got my Hotpot and over ran towards the Greatswords.
Closing Stages;
My Ogres got charged by that last Chariot, Kkazraks unit charged the rear of my Greatswords. The Chariot did 7 wounds! but lost 2 in return, my Stubborn Maneater held. Khazraks unit didnt do too much damage to my Greatswords and they continued to hack down the Beasts to their front.
My Alter charged the flank of Khazraks unit, Soulfire went off. My Wizard left my Spears to blast down 1 last Hound whilst my Knights finally got their sights on the last unit of Hounds and killed them all. I did a load of damage in that big combat involving Greatswords, 2 Beast Herds and the Alter, I won by a lot forcing both Herds to take Break Tests on LD 4.........BOTH PASSED!!!. Gah! My Ogre finished that Chariot.
The last Drogre charged a Halberd Detatchment but they beat it and ran it down. Khazrak and his Beasts finally wiped out my Greatswords and BSB.
My last Maneater charged the last remnants of the Wargor Herd, It beat them but they passed their break test. My Alter beat Khazraks depleted unit but that also passed another break test.
Result - Draw!
Post Game Thoughts;
GAH!, Getting really frustrated with these draws lately that I should have won. 3 of my last 4 games have been Draws. I was 50 points away from a win, that was 1 more kill on Khazraks unit to take them below half strength. I couldnt believe both those Herds passed Ld4 Break Tests!. Had they broke, I would have had a Massacre rather than a draw.
I was happy with my list and the game went as I thought it would, sacrficing my shooting units to deal with his heavy hittings starters before holding up his Herds and using my Alter and Maneaters to smash them. Just those break tests passed ruining things.
I think I will use my 1500 Ludwig list for my last game.
His mercenery force was well drilled and quickly got into formation as a convoy of crude brutish chariots thundered down the road towards them, followed by hulking monsters that seemed half man half dragon. Andrak cursed, he had not heard back from Rugged Old Ricter and his Veteran light cav for some hours, these Beasts must have brought his scouts down, he knew he shouldnt have let them get so drunk the night before.
The roar of his Cannon and snap of crossbows reassured him. Brutal chariots and mighty beasts both falling beneath the hail of bolt and shot. The enemy advance faltered but so had his firepower, he roared for his men to keep up their fire but they did not, turning his mighty war horse he found the reason. Herds of Beastmen were hacking down his fire support, the Chariots and monsters had been a mere distraction!.
Leaving his Pikes to deal with the remnants of the distraction force he turned his loyal bodyguard to face this new threat. The enemy too sensed the challenge and the baying herds of foul beasts crashed into his veteran halberdiers. His men fought well, cutting down many of the heavily muscles beasts, he was old but his sword arm was still good and he chopped down some of the monsters himself.
That terrible horn sounded again to his flank and his heart sunk, turning his head he saw an image he had dreaded seeing since his victory banquet with Elector Todbringer following his victory over the Undead forces that had risen in Middenland. The Elector of told of his brutal battles with one Beast Chieften who had been his bane, a beast he had personally cut the eye from, a beast who had returned the favour. Now here it was bearing down on his flank, one cruel eye blazing with hatred and animal cunning from beneath its horned brow. The infamous Khazrak had im trapped.
He felt his unit buckle and his horse forced to the side with the impact of te charge from Khazraks herd. His Halberdiers regained their footing and fought back with the grim determination of men who knew they had seen their last dawn, they would go down fighting. The battle raged and Andraks sword arm tired, his horse sweated and foamed at the mouth with exhaustion, now hardly able to carry his weight. When all seemed last he heard the crack of pistols and handguns and smelt the glorious spell of acrid blackpowder. He knew it to be the fussilade that so often heralded the charge of his mighty Pay Wagon.
Beasts screamed as they were crushed under iron shod wheels. He could sense a turn in the battle, the enemy was panicking. From his mount he could see the bloody and battered form of Skogg, screaming his feral warcry and crashing into the rear of the Beast Herds, his fellow Ogres must have already been killed but mighty Skogg was no easy beast to slay. He crushed skulls with every blow of his oversized pistols, fighting his way towards the tiring old Paymaster.
As quickly as the attack had began, it ended, the beasts breaking away and fading into the surrouning forests. Skogg bellowed for them to stay and fight, Andrak did not have the strength left to tell the Ogre to shut up in case they did.
He looked out across his force, his bodyguards had died to the last man, only Skogg remained of the ogres and his Pikes were depleted from their fight with the enemy monsters and warmachines. His own warmachine crews and crossbowmen had been butchered. They fought the beasts off though and the Pay Wagon was safe.
He caught himself and cursed, money was not important here, many men had died this day!.
Yet still he thought as Skogg carried his old wounded body towards the safety of the Wagon, he could not get over a strange feeling at the back of his mind.
What was it?...a little satisfaction?..no, it couldnt be, then with horror he realised why he felt that way. With so many men dead, the cut of the gold would be that much greater.
He lay there a while, shocked by his own callousness, and eventually, with a sense of finality Andrak simply shrugged and smiled. Once a Dog of War, always a Dog of War!

Game 10 - Vs Beasts of Chaos - 1500 Points
I finally got to use my Ludwig list!:
Ludwig; Priest; Heavy Armour, Barded Steed, Great Wep. Wizard; Lvl2, Doomfire, Power Stone.
24 Swords; FC Detatch - 10 Handguns Detatch - 10 Halberds
5 Knights; Mus 10 Handguns;
5 Inner Circle Knights; FC, Warbanner 5 Pistol Korps; Mus, Champ, Repeater Cannon; Hellblaster;
My opponents list was as follows;
Bray Shaman; Lvl2, Slaanesh, Staff of Darkoth, Power Stones. Bray Shaman; Lvl2, Slaanesh. Wargor; Tzeentch, Great Wep, Horn of +1 to Ambush LD.
11 Gor, 12 Ungor; FC 11 Gor, 12 Ungor; FC 11 Gor, 12 Ungor; FC 11 Gor, 12 Ungor; FC
Khorne Chariot; Khorne Chariot;
5 Hounds; 5 Hounds; 5 Hounds; 5 Hounds;
Pre Game Thoughts; 8 Power and 7 Dispel at this points value was going to be a real pain to deal with, especially with that game winning lore of Slaanesh. He got both Delusions and the spell that stops you doing anything at all. With the dice to use them and me not having much to stop it, he could choose which units to take out of the game. 115 Infantry is a fair few models to have to deal with too.
Terrain; Large Hill mid left, ruins centre.
Ludwig looked on sternly at his task force. A few weeks earlier a battered mercenary force had arrived in Altdorf seeking passage on a trading vessel to Estalia, they had with them a writ of rights to bear arms signed by Boris Todbringer, who must have hired them to combat the many threats rising in his lands following the Storm of Chaos.
The merceneries commander, Paymaster Andrak, a man whome Ludwig had heard more than a fair share of tales, some good, some bad. Had requested on audience with somebody of the Imperial Palace claiming he had knews of a threat to the Emporers own province. Ludwig had granted it him.
Andrak had claimed his force had been ambushed by Beastmen in the deep south of Middenland, only a few days travel from the border of Reikland and Altdorf itself. A force of beastmen large enough to have mauled the sizeable army that Andrak commanded would be worry enough but it was his claim they they were led by none other than Khazrak one eye himself that had him worried.
He had requested a force from the Emporer to rid the Empire of this threat and ensure the safety of Reikland. Daring Pistol Korps had brought the foul beasts to battle, and now him and the glorious reiksgaurd would run them down, he had been suprised by how easily they had brought the enemy to battle, they seemed more unhinged and disorganised than usual, surely not the force of Khazrak One Eye. Never the less, he would ride these beasts down and rid the Empire of another threat.
Early Game;
Beasts went first and moved up en masse. Magic getting off Delusions on my Ludwig/Priest/Knight unit.
I move my Pistoliers to intercept Ludwigs unit a little, handguns and pistols all only managing 1 wound on a chariot. My Cannon rolled a 2 for shot and didnt bounce so fell short of its Chariot target.
Beasts continue on, Wargors unit moving away from Luwigs. Ambushers arrive, one scatters to my left flank, the other behind his own lines. Magic now gets off the cant do anything spell on Ludwigs unit. Chariot charges my Pistoliers, I only run 8 and am caught and destroyed.
My Handguns fail to do any more damage to the wouned chariot but my Cannon kills the other. Magic takes down some Hounds. My Blaster rolles 3 2's and kills only a single Ungor.
Herds surround my core Knights, Wargors unit gets back towards the main battle whilst the Herd with 2 Brays charge my Swords, Delusions luring off the Halberds to stop their supporting flank charge!. Hounds charge my Handguns and Blaster whilst out on my right, my other Handguns are hit by that Chariot.
My Handguns are butchered by the Chariot. My othe Handguns dont do a single wound with stand and shoot, thankfully they do redeem themselves in combat and break the Hounds. My Blaster crew are killed by more Hounds. My Swords draw with the twin Bray herd.
Lower Lances!;
My core knights now hemmed in thanks to unfortunate scatters on those Herds just charge a unit in front of them. My handguns charge the flank of the twin Bray herd fighting my Swords. Ludwigs unit not isolated turn to face the Chariot that killedmy Handgunners, aiming at a charge next turn. My Halberds move to redirect another Herd.
My Knights get only a single kill and are broken but escape. My Swords now thanks to Handgunner support beat the twin Bray Herd and run them down!.
Chariot turns to face Ludwigs unit as it cant get out of their arc. Beast Herd charges Halberd Detatchment. Other Herd charge the Knights again, making them run further but they remain on the table. Halberds are broke but not caught. Wargors unit charge my Handguns and wipe them out.
Ludwigs Knights charge that Chariot, Ludwig taking its last 3 wounds single handedly, annoyed by his lack of action. My Swords charge a Beast Herd in front of them who had taken some Handguns and Cannon fire earlier. They beat them and break them, catch them and follow on into another Herd! Halberds and Knights did rally this turn.
Closing Stages;
Wargors unit hit my Swords in their flank. I lose and am broke, rolling a 12 to run and staying on the table!.....but so does the Wargors unit! killing the Swords. This panics my Cannon off.
This leaves;
Priest + Ludwig + IC Knights, 5 Halberds and 5 core Knights vs, 2 depleted Herds with Wargor.
Result - Win
Minor Victory to the Empire!
Post Game Thoughts; It was a fun game, his magic was devestating early on, taking Ludwigs unit almost entirely out of the game, thats 2 characters and my hardest hitting unit including my BSB!, it also took my Halberd detatchment out of the game. Thankfully my Swords faught bravely and beat 2 herds with the help of some brave central handgunners.
That Cannon panicking and my Swords getting caught on the last turn cost me a big win but thanks to the banners captured i still had enough points to eek out a win. Ludwigs hammer unit was also only a turn away from slamming into the cowardly Wargor Herd who had avoided him all game.
So a fun classic match up for me and a hard fought win.

So, thats my 10 games up with my Empire, using 3 varient lists, my Ulrican list, DoW rep list and my Ludwig list.
I finished as follows;
Empire; 7-1-2
High Elves - Win Vamp Counts - Win Vamp Counts - Win Warriors of Chaos - Win Warriors of Chaos - Win Vamp Counts - Draw Orcs and Goblins - Win Dark Elves - Loss Beasts of Chaos - Draw Beasts of Chaos - Win
So 6 different armies faced, I did get massacred by those Dark Elves whilst using my Ulric list and Held to a draw against Vamps in one game thanks to Wraiths. My DoW rep list could also only manage a draw against Beasts. Some good wins against Warriors, a hard Vamp list and High Elves though.
I enjoyed using all 3 of my varient lists, none were particularly powerful but all fun to use. I liked the fact a lot of these battles were very fitting for the fluff too. I think of the 3, my Ulric list is the most competative though thanks to that Alter and Hellblaster.
