Alright: Magic resistance: Something the Orcs and Gobbos can do as well as the Dwarves, they have decent artillary (Says the person who swears against bolt chukkas) and they can get speed.
But that is not why I call them better. The one thing I love is choice. Orcs and Goblins may possibly have the biggest selection of units, and are therefore to me a great army. They have great builds, and they have a movement spell. Movement spells are THE best spells in the game.
But what about ogres? Well, at unit strength 3 per model, 10 will generally outnumber anyone. Fear causing? Oh yeah, ouch. Artillary? A chariot that killing blows with the big template. Magic? No. This is what I do not like about ogres, their poor magic. And in a magic world...
Not to mention the ITP problem. But. VC seem to have a bit of trouble taking down monstrous creatures, and a vampire being hit by a killing blow chukker will have trouble. So Ogres will hurt a high tier army with a normal build (or abnormal as the few Ogre players out there rarely use hunters or crap throwers, the two best models....)

Magic resistance: Yeah, orcs and goblins are pretty good at it, but a single runesmith (who will set you back well under 100pts) will give you a total of 5(!) dispel dice, O&G can't do that.
Units: Yeah, they have a bigger selection of units, I won't argue there.
Movement magic: Yeah, us dwarves can have D3 units move TWICE(!) that's fast then anything on foot in O&G, apart from giants.
Ogres: 10 Ogres will set you back ~500pts, you can get a fully upgraded lord and retinue for that, and the Lord will win. About their magic, have you seen Scragg lists in action? Thats a lorra spells.

So... not to necro this thread or anything, but that's exactly what I'm doing for the exact reason that it is necroing. How have things changed? Where would you rank armies now?
Tier 1: Daemons Vampire Counts High Elves
Tier 2: Dark Elves Warriors of Chaos Lizardmen Skaven
Tier 3: Brettonians Wood Elves Empire Tomb Kings
Tier 4: Ogres Beastmen Dwarves Orcs and Goblin
Now these are ranked in order within the tiers as well. I'm not ranking them based on tourney's, I'm basing it on my opinion of their rule. Having played nearly all of the armies on the list now, and even those I haven't played, I've played against quite often. And yeah, I may have an unreasonable racism against Helves, but I still call them cheesey.
