ok, every since i first saw the shaggoth model i've been in drool mode. i love it. its brilliant. and i'm starting to think i might love it enough to make an army round it... so as a sketch of the army, i was thinking of the following: shaggoth with mark of tzeentch and light armour (this just sounds like fun. an immensely oversized wizard for not too much. can't go wrong )...oh, and he's gonna be the general beastmen regiment (just a standard one...dunno about what mix i'll include) more beasts bestigors (IIRC these're core) chaos warrior chosen on foot (maybe 20??) with MoT chosen knights (bugger all of these guys) wiht MoT and then maybe an extra wizard or 2 obviously this needs a lot of tweaking (exact gear for a start). and as a list, its probably nowhere near as strong as perhaps i COULD make it...however, it would give me a chance to show-case a shaggoth and would have an extra advantage of not costing too much now, if anyone has some suggestion for tweaks (nothing too drastic) i'd love to hear 'em

It all looks pretty good, perhaps a few chariots to back up the knights and charge down flanks.
I'm also a big shagoth fan (particularly the slaanesh one when given a great weapon).

i dunno...chariots have alwasy looked a little iffy to me. hence i've never given 'em a go...if you give me a handy tactic or 2, i'll definitely think about chucking 'em in tho

I find chariots normally work really well against any army without cannons.
As they will be advancing at the same speed as the rest of your force they wont get isolated. When placed on a flank you can move along with the infantry and get off flank charges just as the infantry hits home (the extra distance for moving in from a flank is compensated for by the chariots bigger charge move), this combination is mormally enough to see off any units in the game.
Also beast chariots are pretty cheap and surprisingly tough considering the points cost, tuskgors are also devestating on the charge.
A pair of chariots on one flank with the knights on the other should create a good balance with the Shagoth holding the centre with the bestigors and chosen either side of him (so he can lend his considerable might to whichever unit is having difficulty in crushing the enemy).
You could also put your extra sorcerer in a chariot for a bit of protection and he would be able to actually win a few combats, if he breakes through the enemy line he could cause havoc at the back with his spells (depending on what you get of course).

hmmm...actually, not a bad thought...except maybe for the sorceror idea...i have this phobia of putting sorcerors out in the open (comes from playing against skaven and empire)...ok, i'm convinced. i'll chuck in a few chariots
now all i gotta do is borrow the appropriate army books and do the list proper

Cool, then its looks like it should be quite a formidable list.
Yeh i know what you mean, particularly with empire. I'm constantly picking off things with my cannon (especially skaven weapon teams).

lol, i would agree, but i have a pretty much perfect record against empire (i lost one scenario where i had half the pts of my opponent)...however, in a straight fight, the closest i've come to losing was where my opponent took a nuln gun-line. he misfired to get max-shots with his helblasters about 3 times in that game (at close range). the only reason i one was cos my necrarch vamp with only his claws and a 5+ ward save ripped the empire general limb-from-limb in combat and caused a massive panic
