Is it really viable to do a pure Night Gobbo force without Skarsnik and have the force be vaible on the battlefield?
I feel as though having such a low LD across the board will stump any plans you may have. Skarsniks LD 8 counters that very well.
Plus his special rules also come in handy and he can even take on enemy characters in challenges. I may convert my own warboss but use Skarsniks rules.

I think it's perfectly viable, and while it may never be as powerful as a more balanced list, I think it can certainly hold its own while being great fun.
That said, Skarsnik is an incredibly good special character, easily the best in the codex for his points and using his rules on your own warboss would be great.
If you could post the list you were thinking of on the forum, it'd be great if I could have a look.

I was thinking along the lines of roughly;
Skarsnik; Night Gobbo Shaman; Staff of Sneaky Stealin. Night Gobba Shaman; Mad Cap Mushrooms, 3 Magic Mushrooms. Night Gobbo Big Boss;Great Squig [just because it's cool!], Spear, Shield, Light Armour.

20 Night Gobbos; 95 Netters.
20 Night Gobbo Archers; 60 20 Night Gobbo Archers; 60 20 Night Gobbo Archers; 60
955
5 Squig Herds; 150
