G'day,
How do orcs and goblins do in warhammer now. I've not got the new army book, but have given them a good kickin' a couple of time. And seen a unit of massive black orcs get repeatedly beaten in combat by a unit of longbeards.
Reason I ask is that i may be interested in starting them due to one line from the nemesis crown book - ' we've got some little hairy stunties ta bash!'

That is some awsome inspiration right there. But first, you might want to consider what you want. If you have seen time and time again black orcs get taken down, then dont go orcs. Go for a full Goblin army! The Battle for skull pass comes with 40+ goblins right away. And we all know what happens when you throw hordes and hordes of low point soldiers at a few elites. Eventually, with all the dice you will make them roll, they will die.

Orcs and Goblins are an awesome army, although black Orcs aren't the best of units.
To be honest probably the best unit is the basic orc boy: T4, S4 on the charge and a 4+ armour save for only 6 points? Bargain. Black Orcs really don't have all that much more to offer, and point for point boyz generally outperform them.
Goblins are also great, and all the units like squig hoppers and fanatics look like great fun, although I haven't managed to fit any into my 1000 points.
Like Grunt said, if you want to start goblins the Battle for skull pass set is great boxed set.
They're an excellent army to play, and I hope you decide to join the Waaagh!

I actually love Black Orcs. Try this Config;
20 Black Orcs; 323 Points Full Command, Nogs Banner of Butchery.
They shouldn't lose to much in the game when they get the charge and use their banner.
Against Lonbeards -
If they have hand weapons and shields [The Longbeards];
4 Kills, You lose 1 Orc.
Same Rank Bonus and you'll probs outnumber once the combat is over. That leaves you winning by 4, the Dwarfs then have to pass a break test on a 5.
Black Orcs are amazing. Then in subesquent turns, use your great weapons rather than 2 Choppas.
You could even throw in a Black Orc Boss;
Black Orc Big Boss; 121 Points Heavy Armour, Shield, BiggEds Kickin Boots.
He will give you an extra 6 S5 Attacks onthe charge when he is with the unit. For another 2 kills, which would almost assure the Longbeards breaking.
Still, you may want to use some spellcasters, Waaagh Magic is very potent. Nigt Goblins with Fanatics are always a nice choice against the heavily armoured Dwarfs too.
