Empire!
I used to play them with the old rules. What exactly has changed? I see a few new units, but are there any awesome new items, or upgrades?
The next battle is the Hanging Tree, and I'm the stopping force to destroy the Tree. I have 3 Cannons, a massive amount of spearmen and musket-men, a some knights. Any suggestions?

It's all pretty much the same to be honest. Knights of the White Wolf are now not very good with the whole changed Great Weapon Cavalry rules. Any Knights can now be Inner Circle, but that makes them a Special Choice. Cannons, Infantry and Knights are pretty much unchanged, so just go for what worked with your old lists. I do like a huge spearman unit [say 30] with; Full Command, Shields + General with; Laurels of Victory. Sword of Power, Full Plate, Shield. + Battle Standard with; Griffon Standard, Full Plate. + Warrior Priest with; Great Weapon, Heavy Armour, Icon of Magnus. Really expensive, but a lot of fun in mega Battles as a big centrepiece unit. Especially if your defending something. You'll be starting with a combat resolution of 9 before wounds; 6 Ranks [Griffin Stanard], 1 for Outnumber, 1 for Standard, 1 for Battle Standard. Then your getting double combat resolution for any wounds caused by your general., Immune to fear. LD 9, re-rolled. Then whatever the Warrior Priest can add with wounds and prayers. Throw in two militia detatchments. Does come to 751 points though with 2 ten man Free Company Detatchments. Against enemy infantry with WS4, T4, 3+ Save in Comabt. Your looking at getting a combat Resolution of about 14 [Around 4 Kills], not including whatever your prayers are doing. Even Chosen Khorne with 2 Hand Weapons, Battle Standard + Lord are only looking about scoring a combat Res of about 13 against you.

Jesus Christ.
But I MUST fit 3 cannons into the list. Knights are pretty much optional, but Cannons I must have. That's really the only reason I'm playing Empire.
How expensive is the Griffin Standard? Could I just give it to the standard bearer of that unit?
I'll definitely do a variation of this though. I need that much stopping power, but I do want to use those musketmen.

Nah, The Gfriffon Standard is 55 so you have to take a Battle Standard for it. Besides, the re-rolling break tests is really useful on the off chance you do ever lose a combat with them.
You could have that super unit +
3 Cannons +
40 Handgunners +
+ Fire Wizard with Extra Level and Doomfire ring.
All for 1500 Points. Leaving the rest for whatever you want, possibly Knights?.

Ah, I see.
Well, you'd have to drop the general then.
If you do that, you could have that unit minus -
1 Detatchment and the General.
Then have 3 Cannons and 2 units of 11 Handgunners, for 1000 points.

What if I dropped the Warrior Priest? I don't have a model for that.
I could take a Hero that's mildly pumped up so he can get kills in, and a BSB.
Then a unit of 32 spearmen, full command with Light armor and shields.
3 cannons, and as many handgunners as I can fit in.
What do you recommend for the hero?

Ah.
I'd go with a Captain with the Icon of Magnus and Sword of Justice then [re-roll failed to wound rolls].

Well, it's tomorrow, and I'm going to try your idea. I'll be allied with a Wood Elf tree spirit list and a High Elf cav list. Possibly one more, but doubtful.
