The relationship between Evadia and other lands and races is complex, and often contradictory. Many see Evadians as self-serving, drunken cut-throats who only care for gold and battle, whilst the Evadians see outsiders as dishonourable cowards who would rather bribe their way out of a war than stand up and fight!
Below is a summary of how Evadia views the outside world, and is viewed in turn:
The Empire:
The Empire has the most complex relationship with Evadia, seeing them as an ally, a threat, a trade partner, a bandit-kingdom, a tactically-vital land and an insignificant group of madmen all at once!
Overall, the Empire is happy to pretend Evadia doesn't exist. When they are behaving, they are useful. When they're in the mood to fight, they're dangerous. However, the Empire have learnt enough about Evadian honour and their general mindset to avoid direct confrontations. Most arguments tend to be between merchants and diplomats, rather than armed soldiers. However, there is occasionally those on both sides with the means and motivation to start a war. Such campaigns are short, and infrequent, but they do little to improve relations between the two lands.
Over the years, Evadia has obtained many cultural and technological artifacts from the Empire, either by trade, conquest or banditry. They see no reason for the Empire to withhold such advancements, whilst the Empire view the Evadians as mimicking, or mocking, their land. The war between the Imperial Engineers Guild, and the Alexhiem Engineers, is infamous, as numerous Hellblasters, Mortars and Great Cannon have gone "missing" whilst serving with Evadian forces. Indeed, there are claims that the Gatling Gun was developed from plans stolen from Altdorf!
