I think id probablt rely on my priest with the knights to take on the large monsters as they should cause some damage on the charge.
Failing that i'll have to rely on combat resolution. I didn't want to include any blackpowder weapons as middenhiem is pretty much against them, also cannons would take up a rare choice (which wouldn't be to much of a problem in this list).
Halberds are the staple weapon of the empire and i like the image of big burly middenhiemers weilding big devastating pole arms. Swordsmen are more like expert fighters and are seen as romantic and dashing figures and i really couldnt picture a big hairy middenhiemer as very dashing. Still when the list gets expanded i will definatly be including swordsmen, perhaps painted in hochland colours, they could be a regimet sent to middenhiem escoting some important envoy perhaps wizard.
I don't have this army yet but am thinking of getting it, so what do you think? any suggestions?.

Dude i think your maths is slightly wrong but if your unit prices r correct you still got 10pts to spend.
I like it, in 1000pts you number slight under 80 models with a high strength value (love halberds) across the board some 'ard characters, a unit of white wolf usefull of counter'charge flank charge etc and skirmishers to tie up march moves etc. I can see this army actually getting into combat where the design of your army will truly shine and i also think it would be forgiving as far as badf dice days are concerned.
Just watch out for missle heavy, magik heavy and fast movers.

Yep, 10 pts left i recounted.
I'm going for an empire army that can really hold its own in combat.
I think i should have enough men to weather missile fire but magic and speed could undo me.
