“Well.” said Elathain. “Looks like you have friends from all around don’t you Danzig? I would like to finish this conversation later.” Danzig looked at Skraag and then back at Elathain. “Oh. Elathain this is Skraag Irontooth. Skragg this is Elathain. Come to think of it what is your full name elf friend?”
“My name is Elathain Lefindel Ilaiden Ulthandir.” The elven words rolled off his tongue like a fine Cathayen silk. Skragg looked at him with a confused look on his face. “Um…..Elfatan....layfinding….” At that point the ogre just gave up and then said “So. Wot you doing here Danzig? Dey gots any good grog at this place?” Danzig smiled “Yes they do. Barkeep, a barrel of grog for my ogre friend!” The barkeep looked at the ogre with a look that had a mix of fear and dismay. Not many people liked having ogres at there bar for they know what they are capable of and that whatever it is they’ll probably do it. Skragg turned to Danzig. “So wot you doing here?” Danzig proceeded to tell the story of the vampire and how Elathain healed his wound and how he returned the favor. “So that’s how you met up with the elf” Skragg said forgetting for a second that Elathain was standing right next to him. Then he turned to Elathain. “Well, a friend of Danzig’s is a friend of mine.” And with that he stuck out a big meaty hand. Elathain looked at him with a sort of disgusted look but was forcing a smile, as he placed his delicate elven hand in the ogre’s huge one. And when the ogre shook it he practically tore Elathain’s hand off. Just then the barkeep came in and rolled the barrel towards the ogre. Skragg poped off the top and began gorging it into his gluttonous maw. Just has he finished his ‘sip’ Valmont walked in.

Valmont was drained.
He had been following the Rat-Man across the rooftops all day long. It was good, very good, he'd seen it take down two watchmen.
Almost as good as me thought Valmont. Almost.
He had overheard the Evadian and Orc, it seemed as though they were going to try and claim this reward anyway. Typical Evadians always looking for the easy gold, they're as bad as bloody Tilians.
Still Valmont had no doubts that bringing down the vampire would bring him a nice reward, although after his performance last night he wasn't sure if he was up to the job.
'Snap out of it' Valmont whispered to himself, of course he was up to the job, he was the best and he didn't fail.
With that he composed himself and entered the Inn.
_____________________________________________
There was the Elf and Danzig. There was also a huge figure with it's back to him, it even dwarfed Danzig.
Skragg thought Valmont. He could come in handy and we wouldn't even need to give him any of the cut, just some alcohol and meat and the gluttonous powerhouse would be more than happy.
He had met Skragg once before whilst on a job with Danzig. Danzig and the ogre were very close but both were trustworthy. The Elf on the other hand.....
The ogre turned around.
'LITTLE VALMONC' Bellowed the behemoth of a creature.
'How is somfin so small always so angry....hur,hur,hur'
'Want some grog'
The ogre grinned and shoved the barrel of grog into Valmont's chest. Valmont grabbed it and staggered back under the weight. Valmont straightened out shook his head and offered the foul smelling stuff back, trying not to show any strain in holding the barrel.
Danzig waited for a moment, taking a silent pleasure in seeing Valmont strain and struggle, Valmont very rarely showed weakness and when he did it was a moment to be savoured.
He took the barrel with relative ease and slammed it on the floor, with that the ogre plunged his head into it and began drinking. Splashing Valmont's fine leather boots.
Valmont sighed.
' The Evadian and Orc are no longer after the vampire, as far as i know its just us and Vanos and theres a Rat-Man in town, i'm not sure what it's up to yet' said Valmont, still staring with look of disdain at the ogre, still up to its neck in the barrel.
'Just us and Vanos' replied Danzig 'Not many'.
'It is a Vamp, a dangerous foe but i'm sure there will be a good price on its head. I'm assuming it's in' Valmont nodded his head towards the surely by now half drowned ogre.
'Yeh' replied Danzig, grabbing the ogre by hair and hauling its head out, it stood there rocking a huge grin on its face, grog dribbling all down its front. With that it collapsed into a sitting onto its haunches in a sitting position, legs spread in front of it.
It belched.
Valmont and the Elf visibly recoiled but Danzig just laughed, slapped the ogre on the back and said
'Leave some for me buddy'.
Valmont left them to it and turned to the Elf.
'So what about you.......'

“Well, I’m surprised. Here I thought you didn’t like me.” said Elathain with a smile on his face. Elathain was wondering why Valmont had suddenly decided to talk to him. ‘Maybe this may be him trying to see if I’m trustworthy or not, or maybe he just didn’t want to talk to the ogre.’
Valmont didn’t reply to Elathain's joking remark, but looked as though he was expecting Elathain to continue. “I am just a traveler looking for vengeance; and now I have something else to repay. Do you not remember the little tool the Vampire left me?” Elathain held out the knife that had been stabbed into him earlier. “I remember. It was only last night.” said Valmont.
“Yes, I know. Now I would just like to help destroy that blood sucking menace and help out Danzig. I still owe him for last night.” Said Elathain, as he looked at Danzig and Skragg drinking there drinks as fast as they could and then slamming them onto the table and grabbing another. Elathain turned to Valmont. “You are something Valmont.”
Valmont looked at Elathain with a look of surprise and question. ‘What could the daft elf be talking about?’ he wondered. “You are the strangest human I have ever met. You shun everyone who doesn’t give you a coin for something. I wonder why it is that you never allow yourself to get close to others. And why you’re always acting as if you’re hiding something……”
Valmont looked at him in disbelief. “I have nothing to hide elf.” He said. “Is that so?” said Elathain with a smug smile on his face as he took another sip of wine.

More talking by the pointy eared thingy...elf....he still couldnt remember the name. Maybe it was because of the grog. Yeah blame the grog, he always did.
As a man eater he had been to many places and battled many foes. He had also eaten alot of them for that matter.
But never a Vampire. Oh he knew they thought he was dumb. Valmont refering to him as 'it'. Hed like to see him say that when...no Valmont was a friend. He wouldnt do that. The elf might be a good snack he thought but that would be in polite now wouldnt it. But now his mind was raceing. A vampire. Undead where no good to eat but I bet they where worth a bit.
'So where is this little scrap of meat then boys?'
Just as he said that, Danzig fell off his chair. Skragg laughed. Danzig could hold his drink but not as well as an ogre.
'I win matey' and with that he stood up, swayed and walked over to join the other friend and the snac....elf.

The door swung open... expensively.
The man who walked in wore a thick raincloak of purple silk. Beneath, something was making a constant "grink-chink, grink-chink" noise, and even an Ogre could work out he was heavy with gold.
Frankly, it was impressive the guy had made it this far without being mugged.
"Gentlemen... and you, master Elf..." his gaze took in the Ogre, "...your face looks familiar, although I can't say I'm pleased about it."
There was a brief pause as the Ogre tried to work out if he'd been insulted. Eventually, he settled on yes.
The man was grabbed by the collar, and hoised up.
"Give me one good reason not to flatten ya!" The man smiled, and held up a bag, "here's 300." The Ogre looked at the bag, then back at the man. He could see now that under the cloak he was wearing a shining suit of Platemail. "...dem is good reasons..." He put the man down, who proceeded to remove the cloak, and smiled at the bar. Now all could see his suit, which appeared to be made of Gromril. He also carried a circular shield that seemed enchanted, and a sword with runes that glowed furnace red.
"My name is Tom Hawk, and I hear you have a Vampire problem."

'How did this obviously rich human find out about the vampire?' That was just one of the questions that raced through Elathain' mind about this newcomer.
Elathain picked Danzig up of the floor and set him down in a chair. "I would ask you how we can help you but it seems you have already told us why your here.
Take a seat." The ogre tried to sit in one of the chairs but it collapsed under him. The ogre didn't seem to notice and now he was about eye level with everyone while sitting on the floor so no one else seemed to mind either. "First before we decided anything. Where did you hear of this vampire?"

Hawk laughed, "I know about him because I make it my business to know these things. I have means and ways... and money. The money usually does it." Hawk smiled at the barkeep, "start a tab... first round's on me. Now... where did the blood-sucker go?"

The ogre liked this man. Smart, rich and buying a round. This was a good start to a friendship.
At this moment he was still trying to figure out why everybody had grown so much, or why the chair seemed to have shrunk. Must be magical or sumin.
'Wow' he thought.
But now everybody knew about this mad human thing that could fly and pointy teeth. He still though a visit to the doc could fix him but who was he to judge.
You think they could event a comfier chair though in the Empire. This one was digging him in the butt.
'So Mr Tomahawk'
Hawk lifted a small bag and gave it to the ogre. 'Thats Mr Hawk my clinically obiese friend.'
He definately liked him. Dont eat him now he thought. 'So what do you know and..........how much am I gettin paid for it?'

‘Valmont obviously doesn’t like this newcomer.’ Thought Elathain. ‘He doesn’t trust many people, or very much. I wonder why that is. He is an intriguing human.’ Elathain thought to himself. He was starting to like this Valmont. ‘Valmont perked up once the ogre mentioned payment though….’
The barkeep came around with the round of drinks that Hawk had bought. Elathain took a sip of his elven wine the barkeep had given him.
“Before we say anything I would like to know why you are searching for this vampire, but before that I only have this advice. This vampire isn’t like others. I have fought others they were slain with ease, but this one is different. He bested all of us, another human and an ork. He is no ordinary undead. I suggest you turn and leave before he comes after you to. With that being said do you still want in on this?” Elathain asked with a stone cold look that would make even the most cheery people frown.
Skragg looked at him. ‘Why is he askin so many questions?’ he thought. ‘Pointy ears sure does ask about a lot of stuff.’ Then it dawned on him that he was telling the rich man to go away and not pay them. “What do ya think yer doin Pointy Ears?!” he said with a look of disbelief. “This human is willing to pay us for what we plan to do anyways right?”
Elathain looked at him forgetting for a second that he was an ogre. “I don’t need money I will kill this thing so it will not be able to harm anyone ever again.”
‘Jeez that’s a stupid elf’ thought Skragg. ‘He needs to get of priorities in orders.’
“You certainly are an inquisitive elf.” Said Hawk.

There was a thump upstairs. The bar fell silent. "...ah, Slitta." The Skaven crept downstairs, and the Barkeep made himself busy elsewhere. "Tell me, Slitta, where is this Vampire now?" Slitta made a hissing noise, "It got away." "Through no fault of your own, I'm sure." Hawk sat down, "You were correct, Master Elf, this is no ordinary Vampire. He is a powerful member of the Von Carlstein bloodline. It seems he has overcome his vulnerability to sunlight, and thus we can only assume any other Vampires he... creates, may share this ability. Many men died to find that knowledge. He must be stopped. He won't head for Sylvania without my knowing, for the roads are watched. I also made note that there are Witchhunters guarding the roads to the Empire. He will have to stay here, or at least close to here. That is our advantage..." Hawk took a sip of his drink, then stared at it as if it had offended him, he put it down again casually. "Let's just hope Ludwig hasn't begun raising Undead. My hiring fee on a job like this is 3,000 gold coin, in any currency or trade-accepted material, or a mix if you wish. One-third payment to be assigned immediately." Hawk pulled out a thick book, and began making notes inside. After writing on each page, he tore it out, and handed it to one of the warriors.
The notes were machine printed, apparantly using some very expensive dyes. It read: "The Vaults of Aureushiem agree to pay the bearer of this note _________ or equivalent on receipt and verification of this note.
Authorised Signature: __________.
This note is voided if not produced by _________"
The blanks were filled, and looked very official. Hell, it looked almost as good as real money.
"Naturally, by accepting this job, you'll be working for me. So... do we have a contract?"

Skragg just didnt get it. The elf was telling him to zog of and not pay him. Skragg thought that was very silly. Skragg stood up off his magical chair and realised it had vanished and there were splinters left in its place. 'Now aint that sumthin' Skragg said with a laugh. 'Mr elf may I have a word with you please'. Certainly' said the pointy ears.
Skragg walked a small way and turned to the elf. 'Tell you what ill make you a lil deal ehh? If we do get paid for this then you give me your share ok? But dont worrie I wouldent take it for free mate coz we is pals rite? You give me your share an i will keep you safe I will. You ave my Ogres word. I swear on my gut plate no weirdo is going to hurt ya. Not doubting your skills tho mate just bein friendly dats all.'
Skragg was pleased. He thought he had done a good deal there. Yes very fair. All he needed to do now was find the magical chair place where he could buy one. A nice lil gift for himself. And he still had to talk to Valmont to. With that he patted the elf on the shoulder, nearly making him fall over and proceeded to find another drink.
'Anyone want another on me ladz?

The elf thought this ogre was a little comical. “Alright I’ll accept your deal. But make note of this: I am a fully capable warrior and do not need much help.” Elathain thought this a wise thing to do seeing as how he had enough money for a life time, and ogres were fierce and powerful allies, and very loyal sellswords.
‘I think I’m beginning to like this group. But the contractor is a little fishy…’ thought Elathain.
Elathain turned to Tom Hawk. “Alright Mr. Hawk. I accept, but keep in mind I’m not doing this for you.”
Mr. Hawk just smiled

Valmont did not trust this newcomer in the slightest.
He looked Evadian so Valmont had no doubt this Hawk would try to rip him off. Then again 1000 straight up was a good start.
I could try to take him out when he leaves the Inn mused Valmont. No that wouldn't work. No doubt this Hawk had taken precautions against such things.
Still Skragg was in, the Elf was in and no doubt Danzig would be.
Why not.
'I'm in' said Valmont.
Hawk finished writing out one of the notes and held it out.
Valmont snatched it out of Hawk's hand, bringing a hard stare from Hawk, Valmont returned this stare and their eyes locked.
Both mens attention was snapped away with the sound of Skragg smashing the top off another barrel of ale.
Skragg looked at him ' Wan't a drink Valmont, s'on me'
'A wine for me Skragg' replied Valmont with much less venom than normal.
This might not turn out so bad after all thought Valmont and he needed the trust of the others if he was to get what he wanted.

"I'll have what he's having," Hawk replied, guesturing to Valmont.
"Now then... to business." "TO BUSINESS!" bellowed the Ogre, hoisting his barrel like an oversized mug. He paused, looking at the puzzled faces around him. "Sorry, thought you was making a toast..." "Afraid not, but maybe later. What do you people know of Ludwig von Carlstein? Knowledge, as they say, is power... and I want to know how strong you people are."

Valmont looked at him with a glare as if he had been insulted. ‘He didn’t like that comment much.’ Thought Elathain. Skragg gave him a look as well and said almost shouting “You thinks we aint strong enough?!” with that he grabbed the fire poker from behind him and bent it into a triangle. “How’s dat for strong human?” he said with a smirk on his face. “Very good my ogre friend.” Replied Hawk. “Now what about the rest of you?”
Elathain grinned and said with shall I demonstrate first, my swordsmanship of bowmanship?” Hawk seemed amused by this comment. “Whichever you prefer master elf.” Elathain stood up, moved his cloak off his shoulders and picked up the block of cheese on the table.
“Watch closely, human.” With that he threw the block of cheese and stayed motionless with his hands next to each shortsword on his hips. The block of cheese started falling back towards the table. Right as it was eye level with Elathain were a few silver and green blurs. Then the cheese landed. It lay motionless.
Elathain grabbed a perfectly sliced chunk off of it. I made a slice for each at the table. They all reached and picked up a chunk. “Very impressive master elf.” said Hawk. “Let’s hope that your bow skills are just as good.” Elathain smiled again. “Watch and be amazed Mr. Hawk.” Elathain replied.
He took a twig of grapes out of the bowl on the table. He threw it over his shoulder. And in an instant he turned and grabbed a handful of arrows and lined them up on the string and let loose the fine crafted elven arrows.
*Thunk*
The twig fell to the ground, but with no grapes on it. All the grapes where separately pinned to the wall. Elathain went and fetched his arrows and put the grapes into the bowl. “I don’t think they have any seeds now.” Elathain said with a grin. Mr. Hawk applauded at the site. “Excellent. Now what about the rest of you.”
