Background:
Far to the north of Evadia, beyond the Border Mountains and the vast plains of Ellysia, lies a realm of snow and ice. This place is known only as the Tundra.
The Tundra has little to offer the living. Little food grows there, few resources exist beneath its snow-covered soils, and giant wolves, viscous bears and foul Trolls dwell in this bleak and inhospitable place.
Yet there are those who live in this world of ice and snow. In the heart of the Tundra lies a vast man-made dome known as Tundra Town; a shell of iron built in times long forgotten for purposes lost to antiquity.
Tundra Town is never silent. All day long great drums of trollskin sound, their rhythmic beats matched in perfect synchrony by blacksmith’s hammers and the song of axes upon the grindstone.
When word of Trolls reaches the city, it comes alive with cries of anger and lust for battle. Men don their hide-armours and ready their blades, charging out into the white-death of the Tundra to meet and slay their Troll enemies. Usually the Trolls come alone, or in small groups, but when they gather in whole armies, a great force shall gather to repel and crush them.
These are the men and women who live and die in the bleak white of the Tundra… the Tundrans.
The Army List:
Note, as the list must include Gornos, you cannot use Tundran Trollslayers in less than 2,000 points.
Lords: 1 Gornos.
Heroes: Hunt Leaders.
Core: Trollslayer Hunts.
Special: Hunting Hounds.
Rare: 0-1 Dwarf Slayer Regiment, Dogs of War.
Gornos, Lord of The Hunt: 160pts
Gornos is the ruler of the Tundra. A brutal giant of a man, Gornos has slain more Trolls than any living man, and leads his people with a simple, but unshakable determination. When the Troll Armies swell, it is Gornos who leads the attack, his enchanted axe cleaving Trolls left and right, staining the white snow black with their foul blood.
Equipment: Axe of the Great Slayer, Trollhide Armour, Talisman of Protection.
SPECIAL RULES:
Axe of the Great Slayer: This enchanted axe has an edge the colour of dry blood, and is said to be able to kill even the greatest of enemies in a single blow. The axe gives Gorros the Killing Blow special rule, except it also applies to Troll-sized targets or smaller (including Ogres, Minotaur and Usabtai, but not Swarms or War Machines). Finally, No Regenerate rolls are allowed for wounds suffered by this Axe.
Stubborn: Gornos has little fear of death, and will break only in the most desperate of circumstances. He counts as Stubborn.
Hunt Leaders: 60pts
Hunt Leaders are veterans of countless battles against the Trolls. They are grim and relentless warriors, living only to slay the beasts that dwell upon their frozen homeland. Many carry with them ancient enchanted axes, often gifts from the Dwarves, to further their goal of destroying the Troll race…
Equipment: Great Axe, Bearhide Armour.
Options: May replace their Bearhide Armour with Trollhide Armour at +2pts.
May replace their Great Axe with an Axe of Slaying at +5pts.
May be given a Talisman of Protection at +15pts.
SPECIAL RULES: Stubborn.
Axe of Slaying: The Axe of Slaying is a Magic Weapon, thus all attacks by the wielder are Magical. No Regenerate rolls are allowed for wounds suffered by this Axe. In addition, the Axe can be given a single Runic Inscription (usually Dwarven) from the list below:
Rune of Striking: 30pts. +1 To Hit.
Rune of Battle: 25pts. +1 A.
Rune of Might: 20pts. +1 Str.
Rune of Slaying: 25pts. Killing Blow.
Trollslayer Hunts: 9pts
Trollslayer Hunts stalk the cold, desolate landscape of the Tundra, forever seeking Trolls to slay. They are hardy, inward looking people, who share little with the outside. However, when there are few Trolls to be found, they are known to travel the Old World, selling their axes to any army that will hire them. This is widely approved of, as the Tundra has few resources of its own and so must trade with the outside world to survive.
Unit Size: 10+
Equipment: Great Axe, Bearhide Armour (counts as Light Armour).
Options: The regiment may replace its Bearhide Armour for Trollhide Armour (counts as Heavy Armour) at +1pt per model.
One Trollslayer may be promoted to a Musician at +5pts.
One Trollslayer may be promoted to a Standard Bearer at +10pts.
One Trollslayer may be promoted to a Trollhunter at +10pts.
SPECIAL RULES: Stubborn.
Dogs of War: Any army except Bretonnians and Chaos (including Skaven) may take Trollslayer Hunts as a Rare choice.
Hunting Hounds: 7pts
Sometimes called Direwolves, the hounds of the Tundra are more wolf than dog; massive creatures with thick, black fur and teeth like knives. The Tundrans breed these monsters, unleashing them in backs to run down and devour the Trolls. They can often grow to the size of a horse, and few can hope to survive once they close in for the kill…
Unit Size: 5-20
Equipment: Teeth and claws!.
Options: One Hound may be promoted to a Warhound at +10pts.
SPECIAL RULES: Fast Cavalry.
Bloodthirsty Charge: The Hounds gain +1 Str on the turn they charge.
